When I would hear my friends tell stories about their college experience or see pictures of the friends they’ve made, I always felt slighted. Why wasn’t I enjoying college the way everyone else seemed to be? Instagram and Facebook always made me feel depressed. There were pictures of girls in sororities and boys in fraternities. Posts about the clubs they run or having a position on Student Government. Last year, after years of struggling to find my place, I finally found something that suited me.
Marymount Manhattan College has a festival every September to bring in the new school year. At Apple Fest, school clubs set up tables to promote themselves in hopes of getting new members. After doing some research on my school website, I heard about Her Campus. I looked into the organization and found myself longing to meet the members of Marymount Manhattan’s chapter. I couldn’t wait to start writing. And I couldn’t wait to meet some girls who shared similar interests.
I fell in love with everything about Her Campus. My chapter’s CCs were so sweet. They always made us feel engaged and excited. I looked forward to writing my monthly articles. Eventually, I applied for an executive team position. Luckily, I was asked to be the Event Director of the club. I was so excited I found something I could call my own. Planning events for Her Campus has been a blast, and it even inspired me to become an event-planning intern in New York City. It opened my eyes to a possible career path—something I struggled with figuring out throughout my whole college career. If I could change anything, it would be that I joined Her Campus freshman year so I could have more time to be a part of this incredible organization. Thank you Her Campus, and my chapter’s CC’s, for allowing me to find my home at Marymount Manhattan.
