Zayn Malik, the “Bradford Badboy” who left One Direction in March 2015 to go it as a solo artist has published an autobiography this week. The “Pillowtalk” singer usually keeps quiet even though he is one of the most followed superstars of this generation. He mentions briefly in the book how his management tried to hide a lot of the personal details of his life while in One Direction to keep up his positive reputation. Now that Zayn is free from Modest Management, he can now say how he feels without having words put into his mouth.
Zayn addresses many issues that were never known to the public, including the fact that he battled with an eating disorder—which has become the big viral celebrity news story of this book. He explains how being in One Direction limited him creatively. Although he is grateful to the band, he says that he can be the real Zayn now. The book also gives a brief background on his album Mind of Mine to show the readers his creative process.
This book is great, especially for a huge Directioner myself. It helped answer a lot of my long awaited fan girl questions. I loved learning more about Zayn and how he was raised as well as what he is up to now. If you are looking for a book with juicy details on One Direction this may not be the book for that. Yes, I too wanted him to talk about the reality of Larry Stylinson and other secrets from touring with the boys, but the only mention of One Direction was how much it meant to him and an apology to the fans for his sudden leave. The book helped see things from his point of view and was definitely a good read.
