This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Name: Ben Ojika

Major: Social Work

Year: “As of now I plan on graduating fall of 2017 or spring 2018, depending on track eligibility”

Hometown: New Brighton, MN, born and raised

Her Campus: Why did you choose MNSU?

Ben Ojika: “I mainly picked MNSU because I was looking for somewhere close to home that would offer me a good track scholarship. On top of that I was also seeking a school that has had a past of successful social work graduates.”

HC: What three words would you use to describe yourself?

BO: “I think that a few words to describe myself would be ambitious, optimistic, and faithful. Get a chance to pick my brain a part and you’ll see all the dreams and hopes I have for the future. One of my favorite quotes is, “For every minute you are mad you lose 60 seconds of happiness,””, I try my best to find the good in everything every day. My parents have always been strong in their faith and passed this along to my siblings and I. I find each day to be a true blessing and thank God for giving the opportunities he gives me every day.”

HC: Who would play you in a movie about yourself and why?

BO: “I think that the actor Jeremy Suarez from The Bernie Mac Show would play me in a movie. I’ve worn glasses pretty much my whole life and he did in the show as well. Growing up people would always say that I looked and acted like him so I think he would be a good fit.”

HC: What activities are you involved in on campus?

BO: “I’ve been involved in on campus are CRU which is a non-denominational youth group, BIG (Black intelligent gentlemen), teachers of tomorrow, track and field, Avid tutoring at Mankato West high school, and I hope to join the social work club soon.”

HC: What can you be found doing on the weekends?

BO: “These days on the weekends and for the remainder of the school year you can find me at track meets. Meets are for sure something that I look forward to during the week a lot.”

HC: What is your ideal date?

BO: “I like being out and about so an ideal date for me would be something that involves being engaged. I think that dinner and bowling would be fun followed by a long walk in a local Mankato park with deep life conversations.”

HC: Who is your celebrity crush?

BO: “It’s hard picking one, but my celebrity crush would have to be BeyoncĂ©. She sings, she dances, and she’s beautiful, what more would I need?”

HC: What quote do you live by?

BO: “The quote I live by would be one I heard a long time ago by Eleanor Roosevelt. She said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I believe in my dreams and will do what I need to do to achieve them. So therefor, the future belongs to me.”
