February 14th is just around the corner, and as someone who is in a long-distance relationship I understand this day can be hard for some. No matter the distance between you and your significant other, Valentine’s Day can still come with some struggles. To make the day a little better for both parties, here are a couple ways to celebrate for those spending the day apart.
-
Care packages
Care packages are a great way to show your significant other you’re thinking about them and that you care. It’s also an alternative to the traditional gift-giving couples do on this holiday. Your care package can include anything from candy and snacks or an article of clothing.
-
Send them flowers
Ordering or having flowers delivered from a local florist is a simple and sweet way to send your SO some something cute and compassionate to let them know you love and care about them.
-
Succulent Subscription box
This one ties into #2 but through the subscription service Succulents Box, you can order your SO a cute little box of 1-2 succulents or air plants right through Succulents Box’s website. The plants are packaged carefully and sent to their doorstep.
-
Dinner date or movie date via Skype
If you’re looking for something to do that’s a little more personal/intimate, a dinner date or a movie date through skype is a good idea. For a movie night, you guys could collect some snacks and your favorite blanket and skype while watching your guy’s favorite movie. The same concept for a dinner date. You guys could agree on a meal, go shopping if necessary and skype while making and eating the meal together. By doing this you’re still spending time together even if they aren’t physically there.
-
Send them Hershey Kisses
The last one is short and sweet but another small but throughout thing you could do for your SO on Valentine’s day is send them kisses in the mail! Fill a small (or large) mason jar with any Hershey Kisses of your choosing and then write a cute little note on the jar such as “A kiss for every day I’m away”. Then all you have to do is wrap it securely and ship it out!
No amount of distance justifies a long-distance relationship. Distance is distance and don’t let anyone tell you your struggles are invalid just because their distance is greater. If none of these 5 things are quite what you’re looking for, there’s plenty of other tips and ideas on how to spend the day while apart from a loved one. Just because you and your significant other can’t spend the day together physically doesn’t mean you can’t spend it emotionally.
