Okay, first things first: April is Earth month, and if you haven’t done anything yet to celebrate and give back to our planet, something super easy you can do is follow some Instagram accounts promoting sustainable lifestyles in order to take better care of our planet and yourself! AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CLICK THAT BLUE FOLLOW BUTTON. It doesn’t get any easier! You will be helping yourself out AND the planet when you expose yourself to all of this new information on living sustainably and being a eco-conscious citizen of our planet. Maybe you listen to their advice, maybe you don’t, but being aware is the first step! I am proud of you for making it this far, so let’s check them out!
In this article I’ve included a list of my top 6 favorite low waste/zero waste/ sustainability/climate aware accounts, who’s followings range from hundreds of followers to millions. I follow all of these accounts on Instagram, and they inspire me with new ideas and information that I appreciate learning about. A few of them are the accounts and daily lives of REAL PEOPLE trying these lifestyles. This is in no way an ad for these Instagram organizations or people; however, I hope they bring you as much joy as they bring me. Here they are below, in random order.Â

@wastefreeplanet
This account, which also runs a waste free digital magazine, offers a lot of great options for sustainable living. They not only offer these options, but their posts also educate followers on why you SHOULD switch these things to more sustainable options, and how it really is cheaper in the long run! Basically they post all of these great tips, sometimes from their accounts and sometimes from others, all on their page in one great place for people to access!

@impactforgood
THIS GIRL IS MY ULTIMATE SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE GOALS. She also has a website and a YouTube channel where she posts content, and a Patreon site to help those who are starting their sustainable social media accounts out and want tips and advice from her. She tries different zero waste and low waste products to share with people whether or not they are as great as people say! She also posts a lot of real stuff about her life and her one bedroom home that she lives in with her fiancĂ© and ADORABLE cat, as well as sustainability tips that I find super doable. LOVE THIS ACCOUNT.Â
3. @climate_.crisis_
This “imperfect, eco-friendly earth advocate” account is a mixture of everything I look for in an instagram account. They post daily stories with updates about the climate crisis, and what you can do to make an impact! Their posts are motivational and also inspirational, offering options and things you can do to help the planet and live sustainably. They post FACTS and then things you can do to change those facts!Â
4. @thezerowasteguide
THIS ACCOUNT. Awesome stuff. This account is super helpful as its posts will show you how you can reduce a certain product to low waste, and then simply to zero waste. They will show how you can create more sustainable options in your own home for those on a budget, and they also offer options for those willing to invest. For me, I live on a college student budget, and so it is super helpful to see the options they create for those living on a budget who are unable to invest in the most sustainable option, but still want to help out.Â
5. @wastefreemarie
This account follows the journey of a girl named Marie just trying to live waste-free. Each post is a happy little blog post about her journey to live waste-free and what she might be doing to accomplish that goal on any given day. She started it in 2019, and with only 111 posts so far, I’d click follow now so that you too can follow along with her on her journey and get inspired!Â
6. @livelikemadÂ
I stumbled upon this account somehow, and I am glad I did. With only 712 followers, this New Yorker’s sustainability is new and will only continue to grow. I love the relatability of her posts and her desire to search for new information on sustainability. She recently started a series of IGTV videos breaking myths on sustainability, and I AM HERE FOR IT.Â
