Halloween Makeup Tutorials for 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MNSU chapter.

Hello, my fellow ghouls.

Halloween is just around the corner and that means you probably still don’t have any idea on what you want to be for the spookiest day of the year. If you are a makeup lover like myself, I have you covered! I have scoured YouTube for 5 of the best Halloween makeup tutorials out there. I have tried to stick to those that will be easy for beginners! For most, you probably already have the supplies in your current makeup collection, otherwise, the supplies you need to purchase are fairly cheap. Liquid latex can be found online for around $5-6 or in any Halloween supplies store, like Halloween Express. Just a warning that some of these will take a little bit more time than the others, but the end result is beautiful and sure to stand out!

1. HALLOWEEN SKULL MAKEUP

Chrisspy is an insanely talented and detail-oriented makeup artist and this look is one of her most popular videos to date. It is a beautiful half skull with a glam eyeshadow look. Skulls are always going to be a Halloween classic. This look is extremely versatile and you can wear practically anything with it. To achieve it, all you need are makeup brushes, and black and white cream makeup.

2. MELTING SKULL

Here is another glam skull makeup look. I just can’t get enough of them! This one is provided by the one and only, Desi Perkins. I absolutely adore her and her take on the normal skull makeup tutorial. I love how she incorporated a fierce cut crease, but still kept it more on the creepy side with the melting skin and revealed skull underneath. It is so different and unique and I am highly considering doing this for my Halloween makeup this year. Throw on a teal wig like Desi’s and you are bound to be the center of attention at any party. Imagine the Instagram photo opportunities with this one.

3. GANGSTER CLOWN

I’m sure you’re all no stranger to the creepy clown sightings that have recently been plaguing America. This tutorial was created last year by Chrisspy and is a great alternative to those who would still consider being clowns for Halloween. This is less creepy/frightening and more on the glam/sexy side to where I think you can definitely get away with wearing it this year.

4. ZOMBIE FLAPPER

This Halloween look is for those who want to put a sinister spin on something more traditional. Being a flapper is always a great option for those who want to feel more dressed up. However, instead of going with the winged eyeliner and red lipstick, opt for being a zombie! Desi Perkins does a great job with this undead-zombie-flapper look. She uses liquid latex to create a gory neck wound that adds an extra shock element to a normally put together, fancy costume.

5. AVANT-GARDE MERMAID

Miss Jordan Hanz is hands down the queen of Halloween tutorials. This year, she has been doing 31 days of Halloween makeup tutorials, uploading a new one to her channel every single day. She is a creative genius! I chose this avant-garde mermaid tutorial because it is fairly easy for beginners…although definitely time-consuming. But, just look at how gorgeous and fabulous it is! Well worth the time spent. The sequins add an eye-catching 3D effect and it is the perfect, shimmering look for anyone who is obsessed with being as highlighted and glowing as possible.

6. DIAMOND SKULL KING

Special honorable mention goes to Alex Faction! He has also been uploading Halloween makeup tutorials every single day this month and this has definitely got to be my favorite. This Diamond Skull King tutorial is single-handedly the coolest creation I have ever seen. I am a huge fan of sparkle and bling and this has no shortage of it. If you want to amaze everyone, this is the makeup to do this Halloween (if you have several hours to spare, of course!). Otherwise, the materials are relatively cheap, just be sure to purchase some Spirit Gum adhesive for those rhinestones!

Have a safe and happy Halloween, collegiettes!
