Elementary school is an exciting time of firsts and friends. And extracurricular activities all start with the school year. For those who choose – or get thrown into – the athletic lifestyle, it can be both fun and terrifying. Being involved is expensive. Hockey, cheer and baseball costs can add up quickly, among others. Band, orchestra and choir can also rack up quite the hefty charge.
For those who chose the athletic route, you either have it, or you don’t. I tried volleyball, soccer, softball and cheerleading – none of which ended in any type of incredible abilities on my part. I am not athletic. It took me way too long to discover the extent of my inabilities. Those who have the athletic advantage often times carry their abilities into high school, and if they’re lucky, up through their college years. College athletics can pay off, literally. A full-ride scholarship can be life-changing for student athletes. The MSU volleyball team just returned from Japan where they took on Tokyo.
While being an athlete is only one of the many ways you can spend your time, I think I’ll stick with aiming for the Dean’s List.
