STARBUCKS IS BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE RED CUPS!
To all the Starbucks lovers in the world, it is that time again. Starbucks released their holiday cups recently, November 11th, 2016.
And you HAVE to see the designs!
If you all remember, last year there was a huge controversy with the Starbucks red cups. When they were released, they were just plain.. red.. cups. People all over the world were questioning, “Where were the Christmas designs?” or “Where is the reindeers and snowflakes?”. The plain red cup design apparently offended many people.
“STARBUCKS HATES CHRISTMAS!”
According to CNN Money, Joshua Feuerstein, a former pastor, posted a video on Facebook criticizing Starbucks. He accused Starbucks for removing “Christmas from their cups because they hate Jesus.” (CNN Money)
Feuerstein’s video received more than 10 million views, encouraging customers to say “Merry Christmas” as their names to trick baristas into writing the phrase on the cups.
Now this year, the Starbucks red cups appear more “Christmas-y” than ever. Starbucks published a promotional video stating, “Last year, we made the cups. You made them the holidays.” The video showed many designs being created on those plain red cups, by many people all over the world. (Starbucks video:Â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXJ21HtXr1U)
Last year, Starbucks encouraged people to share their designs on Instagram. According to Starbucks Newsroom, they received more than 1,200 individual submissions from 13 countries. Then Starbucks chose 13 designs from six different countries to be featured in this year’s holiday cups.
Here are 10 of the 13 designs:
From Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Russia, and South Korea, to states here like, Idaho, California, Pennslyvania, and New York, the chosen designs were inspired from the artist’s holiday scenery or their seasonal traditions.
Starbucks may have stirred a controversy last year with the plain red cups, but it became a blank canvas to people all over the world. And the designs that were chosen to be in the Starbucks Holiday Red Cups of 2016, shows how Starbucks was able to bring people together through art and their love for Starbucks.
