Our very first Campus Celebrity is Liz Boylan, President of Molloy Student Government! As her term comes to an end this month, she reflects on four years of being involved at Molloy and working to improve campus life for all students.
Year:Â Senior
Major: Business Management
Post-graduation plans:Â Attending Molloy for a master’s in marketing and working full time at NYC & Company in Manhattan, which is New York City’s official marketing and tourism company
Involvement at school: Molloy Student Government (MSG), Molloy’s Dominican Young Adult chapter, Campus Ministries, Business Ambassador
How have your roles on MSG shaped your college experience, especially your role as President this year?
“Going into college, I was a shy little thing and never would have imagined myself a few years later becoming the president of Student Government!  I started as a Public Relations Coordinator doing much of the advertising for the school events and fundraisers.  As a freshman, I was quickly able to move myself up into the Programming Coordinator role and ran the largest social events on campus.  I have also been President of my class. Â
Being President of the entire student body has been the most challenging, yet enriching experience of all.  In this role, I really have been able to connect with a countless amount of students from every niche of college life.  I have been able to hear it all, from the complaints to all the good things.  I have also learned a lot about working with people.  I absolutely love the student body and have always tried to be involved in every aspect of student life from cheering on the athletes to helping the Dominican sisters with campus ministries to planning social events and fundraisers to attending as many club meetings as I can.  I love this role because I get to be a people-person, and most importantly, I get to be there for the students.  I support everyone I can, and I love knowing that the students can come to me with anything and everything.  Yes, there have been many, many obstacles and technicalities throughout the year, but ultimately, all the good things and being able to work with some great people has made it an amazing experience.”
What is your favorite part about your Molloy experience?
“I absolutely love the business department!  As a freshman, I came in as an accounting major but secretly had no idea what I really wanted to do in business.  Within my first year or two, I learned so much about what direction I wanted to go in from everything that was offered. Executive-based faculty, internships starting freshman year, a business club for every type of business major, global competition and networking opportunities and highly motivated students have really made the academic business experience amazing for me as a student.
My other favorite aspect about Molloy is the study abroad opportunities.  I have been to seven countries in the last two and a half years – traveling the world is my favorite hobby! Being able to discover life outside Long Island has been absolutely amazing through my global learning experiences.  I have traveled to China, France, Latvia, Czech Republic, Poland, England and Belgium and have learned so much about history and other cultures.  My favorite part has been making friends and connections all over the world.  In every country I have traveled to, I have met people my own age, learned about their cultures and gained an understanding of what life is like on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.  Everyone I have come across and everything I have seen over in Europe and Asia is just amazing to me.  I have found my passion through all my trips and that is to see the world!”
As your presidential term and tenure as an undergraduate student both come to an end, do you have any advice for underclassmen at Molloy based on all of your experiences?
“The one piece of advice I give to anyone my age or in college is this: Take the good with the bad, and appreciate them both.  This sounds cliché, but college truly is the best time of your life because of all the amazing things that happen to you in the four or so short years.  Many may disagree and say that it’s a terrible time because so many terrible things happen to you, whether it’s being stressed, working multiple jobs or drama with people.  But it is all those tough moments that make you appreciate the good.  So all I can say is trudge through the rough times because they help you to appreciate and value all the good things you have in life! Much love to everyone!”
