Tired of headphones? Want to really make your music fill up a room? Want to really make your music wake you up? Even if you just want to wake your neighbors early in the morning, just annoy them, a speaker sounds it’d be a pretty good investment for you! But wondering what kind of speaker to get? Well I guess it would all depend on a few things, music taste, how often you listen, and price range. Luckily there is a speaker that fits into all three of those categories, and it’s good for casual listeners and those who love to jam with their music at max volume, it’s relatively cheap in comparison to other good quality speakers, it’s called the JBL Flip 4, and trust me you’ll be flipping to buy one after this review. The JBL Flip 4 is the successor to the JBL Flip 3 a small, fully waterproof, portable Bluetooth speaker weighing 1.14 lbs designed for listening on the go, in your house, or outside. Its compact size makes it ideal for travel. The Bluetooth feature allows for hands free listening without you ever having to plant your phone in one spot like, however it does carry an AUX cord port in case you prefer that. The Flip 4 also provides up to 12 hours of battery life, a slight improvement over its predecessor’s 10 hours of battery life. In terms of sound the JBL Flip 4 may be small but it is VERY loud! It offers a clear crisp sound quality, and a strong booming bass that does not crack when the volume is maxed out.
After purchasing one I decided to do a test I did with the JBL Flip 3 to see how loud the sound could be, I stepped out of my room (which is at upstairs in a two story building) and walked outside to the backyard and turned the volume up to max and to my surprise I could hear the song blasting as loud as an entire stereo set. However, this also revealed to me that the Bluetooth connectivity range isn’t too far as I began to walk down the street my phone disconnected, showing that there is a limited range in Bluetooth connectivity. The speaker includes a built in rechargeable 3000mAh Li-ion battery, wireless connectivity for up to 2 phones, the ability to connect more than 100 JBL Connect+ enabled speakers to amplify the sound, access of Siri or Google now from the JBL speaker with a single press of a button, and access to a variety of colors. The main upgrades and downgrades from it’s predecessor are that the JBL Flip 4 is fully waterproof meaning it can be submerged, unlike the Flip 3 which could only protect itself against spills or rain. The second is the increase in battery life for the Flip 4 from 10 hours to 12 hours, and the third being the increase in the number of JBL devices capable of being connected to it. The only downgrade to the Flip 4 is now instead of 3 devices being able to connect the speaker at one time the limit has now been decreased to 2. The JBL Flip 4 retails for $99.95 on the JBL website and Amazon proves to have impressive sound and amazing features making it a worthwhile buy.
