This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Monmouth chapter.

I wrote this poem during a time that I was feeling rather hopeless. I have struggled with my body image for as long as I can remember. The intensity of it comes in waves and during the time that I wrote this, I was in the midst of a hefty wave of insecurity and I wrote this to express how I feel when I’m in the midst of a time of self-doubt.

You talk about me like I’m not here.

Passing judgement,

Watching,

Measuring,

Obsessing.

Your whisper is constant

Even in silence.

I hear your breath

Hovering,

Counting,

Obsessing.

When I’m in a crowd

You’re the loudest voice.

And I don’t even try

To drown you out,

Suppress your screams

Because you’re louder than I’ll ever be.
