Campus Cutie: Trevor Martindale

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.
Name: Trevor
Major: Nutrition Science
Year: Junior
Birthday: August 15th
Sign: Leo

Her Campus was given the pleasure of chatting with one of MSU’s busiest and brightest students, Trevor Martindale. To get to know him a little bit better, we asked him a few random questions about his everyday life.

HCM: What activities are you involved with on campus?
TM: I’m in a little bit of everything. I’m a lab assistant at OIT, I’m a Peer Advocate at Health Promotions at the Drop-In Center, and now I’m the Treasurer of CaribSo.

HCM: What made you decide on your major?
TM: At first, I was a biology major and then I recognized that biology was not easy, so I decided to go elsewhere. Also, I felt that Bio was too much about the leaves, and I actually wanted to care about the human beings. I think nutrition is the one thing that everybody is caught up in, so honestly I felt like it was appropriate to really help people out.

HCM: What are your hobbies?
TM: I would definitely say sleep is at the top of that list. Also, when I get a chance, ironically, I like to read and workout.

HCM: What’s your favorite book?
TM: I’m not really a book person. I’m more like an article person. If I can find an article about anything, I try to get a chance to read it.

HCM: So, what is the one site you like to visit the most to read an article?
TM: I’d probably say, I read Wikipedia. There’s a lot of information on there. You’d be surprised what you find on Wikipedia. So, I take that and then I’ll look into it further if I see something on there that interests me.

HCM: When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?
TM: That is, certainly sounds like a nap to me, 30 minutes of free time is certainly a nap all the way. Naps are everything honestly, naps are life; I’ve got to be honest with you.

HCM: You know how the saying goes, you’re only as good as the company you keep, what kind of company do you keep?
TM: I just try to keep positive people around me, you know? You don’t want people around you that are trying to do the other. In terms of bringing you down or anything like that. You want people that are going to uplift you and be positive in your life. So truthfully, it’s just people on the same path as me, trying to get out of college, trying to do something bigger than themselves.

HCM: What qualities do you look for in a friend?
TM: I look for somebody that is driven, someone that is loyal, trustworthy, which can sound cliché, but more so someone that I cannot exactly see myself in. If you’re a little bit different than me, then that’s perfectly fine. Because I feel like when you’re too much alike you can’t really be a friend with somebody. I need to be able to learn from you and take something from you so we can mend personalities.

HCM: What qualities do you look for in a significant other/girlfriend; is it the same thing as a friend?
TM: I would say it’s probably very similar, but more so with someone I could feel on an intellectual level. Someone who is on the same level as me, but also somebody that could be as goofy as I am when I want to be. Once you kind of combine those two things, if you’re the opposite sex, you’re falling right in line into significant other territory.

HCM: What’s the #1 most played song on your playlist?
TM: Let’s just say it’s a Bobby Shmurda song, I’m not gonna exactly name it,  because all of his titles are very abrasive, but it is Bobby Shmurda.

HCM: When was the last time you were nervous?
TM: Last time I was nervous, I think recently during an exam that I took in one of my nutrition classes. Cause I feel like I didn’t study for it at all, but ended up getting an A. I mean it’s very rare that I get nervous so that is probably one of the only things that made me kind of nervous.

HCM: What is your favorite quote or saying?
TM: It’s not really a favorite quote of mine, but it’s something I kind of go by or live by. I’d rather know a little about a lot than a lot about a little. A lot of people go out through the world saying “Oh, this is what I know and I know it so well.” They do this instead of trying to diversify themselves and saying “I know about a multitude of things” as opposed to just knowing about one thing well.

So the next time you see this cuti and “Jack of all trades” around campus, be it at the library, the Drop-In center, or in a nutrition class near you; Don’t hesitate to say hi!
