Collegiettes, meet Ashley Toussaint, a young lady who most certainly deserves to be featured for HCM’s Profile of the week. I’ve personally been able to see her work ethic as she takes her position as a Service Assistant very serious, even throughout her tiring overnight shifts. Regardless of the daily stressors that may seem too heavy a load for others, Miss. Toussaint makes it look effortless as she struts around campus in her usual fashionista attire. Ashley’s student leadership doesn’t stop a being an SA, she is also a Resident Assistant, and the Treasurer of NASO [The Native African Student Organization]. While she juggles all of these responsibilities, she’s also a stellar student who is a graduating senior in the Class of 2016. Get to know more about Ashley Toussaint by reading more below!
Major: Public Health w/ a Concentration in Community Health Education
Birthday: July 10th
Sign: Cancer
Year: Senior
HCM: What inspired you to attend Montclair State University?
AT: I know that it’s cliché, but the fact that it is really all here. I wanted a school that could help me dip and dab into multiple things because at the moment I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. Being that MSU offers such a large range of majors, it helped me figure out what I want to do with my future.
HCM: What is one of your favorite memories about college thus far?
AT: Every time I was able to overcome something it became a favorite memory of mine. I’ve been through a lot where it helped me to grow, and each time I succeeded it became a favorite memory of mine.
HCM: Do you have a favorite campus spot that helps you de-stress?
AT: My favorite campus spot is D3 [Dinallo Heights Desk 3]. I’m at peace when I’m at work because I’m around people who want to be around me and people that I want to be around. Plus, I get so much work done, and honestly I’ve met so many people there that are now becoming life long friends.
HCM: Do you have a list of things to do before your ‘x’ years old?
AT: Omg yes! Learn to swim, try fried ice cream, travel a lot more, and go to museums. I just really want to embrace things I didn’t really get to do when I was younger.
HCM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
AT: I used to be a fencer in elementary school!
HCM: What brings you the greatest joy?
AT: Seeing other people happy, being around success, motivation and people who are kind of on the same page that I am.
HCM: Who is on the guest list for your ideal dinner party?
AT: A$AP Rocky, my parents, sister, Ashley D., Priscilla, and Claudine. A$AP can bring the crew too.
HCM: What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?
AT: I wish I knew that this “Too shall pass,” and “That things are temporary.” Also, things that happen in the present are just done so you can know how to deal with them in the future. Whatever you’re able to conquer in the past is setting you up to handle it in the future.
HCM: How much have your dreams from your childhood changed today?
AT: If you were to ask me what I wanted to be when I was 7 I’d say a Teacher, 12/14 an orthodontist and at 17 a Fashion Merchandiser. Now my dream is to just live! When I was younger it revolved around a career, but at this point I know what I want to do but I don’t want it to only be surrounded around a career.
HCM: What quote do you live by?
AT: “God makes all things beautiful in His own time.” I don’t mean physical beauty, I mean a dream, a goal, in God’s time He’ll make that goal beautiful or possible. It’s not about the physicality, it’s much deeper than that.
The true me is: Passionate, hardworking, and funny
Least favorite Celeb: Azealia Banks
Favorite Celeb: A$AP Rocky

Favorite genre: R&B and Kompa

Well there you have it collegiettes, Miss. Ashley Toussaint. We hope that you all enjoyed getting to know her better through this short but sweet Profile feature. Before we parted ways with Ashley she left us with these words,
“Don’t let a no take away from your passion. When I was in high school, I used to get away with a lot but when I applied to college I got my first no from my top choice and in to everywhere else. I didn’t let it take away from my passion. It takes several no’s to get a yes.”
Thank you Ashley for sitting down with us here at HerCampus Montclair. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and hope that you will keep that passion up no matter what.
