It’s a New Decade – So Let’s Change Our Mindset

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

We’re ringing in the new year and a new decade. It’s time to start thinking about how you want to achieve your resolutions and how to make 2020 a great and fulfilling year!

1. Bullet journaling…again!

Now, you’ve probably watched countless ‘Welcome to 2020’ videos on YouTube already. Most of which include the “start a bullet journal” step. Starting a bullet journal can be tricky, but it can also be the simplest task in your day. It serves a place where you can put everything in one place – daily planning for each day with times, a monthly calendar if you need to plan events ahead, a place to put your ideas for *ahem ahem* articles (a.k.a. a “Mind Dump” section), and within each month a goal section with a checklist.

I’ll definitely be following this format, but feel free to be as simple with your bullet journal as you would like. This is something new for me too but I think it’s a smart step to take. This method of organization can really help me track of small daily tasks I might forget to do, keep me responsible by looking at this journal, while also having a place to reflect on how my week went. Bullet journaling is definitely productive and a habit we should carry into the 2020s.

2. Skincare – We want glowing skin at ALL COSTS!

Besides makeup, I love talking about all things skincare. Caring for your skin is, of course, important, but so is listening to your skin. We end up buying 10 different facial oils and creams and not understanding the benefits of what they actually do – or why some of them might even be harmful. Hyaluronic Acid is a literal Godsend, but a natural oil like coconut, can often clog up your pores and frankly is way better for your hair than your skin. (*Some natural oils can actually do more harm than good so do a quick Google search if it’s okay for your face!)

This 2020, let’s buy skincare that our skin actually needs and refrain from buying unnecessary things to fill up your vanity’s aesthetic. This will not only help the environment, but your wallet will love you more for it.

3. Hair Care – Let’s get those gorgeous locks!

Just like there are different skin types, your hair needs different attention. Most of us only talk about hair care when we need a new haircut or when the seasons are changing, we need to be more aware of how to keep healthy hair. A problem could occur in finding the perfect shampoo and conditioner, where some combinations of the two could work great in the summer but not in winter, and vice versa. This best method for hair care is trial and error; trying out products that you’ve heard of from hair types similar to yours is a great start, and then moving on to eliminating to those that don’t work to give you the style and texture you want.

2020 is a start to a new decade and we should be more conscious of our habits and choices we make for our lifestyle. This year can set the tone for the next 10 years, so let’s make it count!
