Tory Burch Fall 2019 Collection Resurrects Ruffles and Pleats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Tory Burch’s new Fall/Winter 2019 collection was a parade of stunning pieces ranging from cut-glass jewelry, floral patterns, long trench coats, oversized handbags, stripes, pleats, ruffles, and so much more. There were familiar celebrity faces that made an appearance such as Mindy Kaling aka Kelly Kapoor from “The Office,” Zoe Saldana, and Lana Condor from “To All the Boys I Loved Before.” Here’s what the show consisted of in a nutshell.

Ruffles on ruffles on ruffles

The fall/winter collection consisted of so many ruffles from collars, hems, and sleeves. Ruffles add a retro vibe to the garments while also giving it a clean, polished and business casual look. My favorite ruffle piece was this ruffled collar blouse paired under a striped burgundy and blush blazer and matching trousers. The colors on the blazer work beautifully together adding a cool touch with a ‘TB’ for Tory Burch logo patched on the upper right side. Looking at the two pieces separately, I would have never thought to pair them together but now that I see them paired I think it’s the coolest ensemble!

Pops of color

The collection features a lot of neutral colored pieces like gray, navy, tan, white and tons of black. Tory Burch balanced out the neutrals by adding pops of color like a red handbag or a Kelly green top with a navy skirt. She also tied in a touch of print to the collection such as a leopard handbag with an all black outfit for a classy and chic look. There was an outfit in the collection that I thought was really different. It was an ankle-length, navy blue, sleeveless sequin dress paired over a bright orange blouse with a ruffled collar and sleeve cuffs. Again, it’s not something I would ever think to pair together looking at it separately, but the use of complementary colors orange and blue did the trick in really selling these two pieces as an ensemble. Tory Burch also decided to utilize the colors into a monochrome look with an all yellow trench coat paired over a matching yellow dress.

Pleats

Besides the ruffles, pleats made a huge feature in the collection! Most of the dresses and skirts in this collection were all pleated and ranged from solid colors to different prints to satin fabric. The pleats contribute to the whole retro and polished vibe of the collection, especially when paired with a ruffled blouse, a long trench coat and tall boots.

Overall, Tory Burch’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection was incredibly unique with the variety of different prints being mixed together in an ensemble. The collection gave a off a preppy/business casual vibe while also contrasting with platform shoes, flared jeans, leather moto jackets and tons of black to keep the the looks laid back and cool. I loved the collection and even picked out a few pieces that I, myself, would wear (if I was ballin’ of course).
