Why You Need To Still Get Dressed up, Even if You’re Working From Home!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Okay, I’m gonna hit the nail on the head right away with this one. Do you feel like your bada*s self in sweatpants, oversized t-shirts and slippers? If the answer is yes, good for you girl and slip me a piece of that confidence! But, realistically there’s nothing that makes me feel like I could take over the world more than a cute outfit that looks amazing. If I’m going to the grocery store or out to get a coffee, I swear 8 times out of 10 I’m dressed up. This pandemic isn’t going to last forever, so start living and dressing like you always have.

Reason 1: It makes me feel good!

Like I just started off by saying, a well-put-together outfit always makes me feel instantly better. It’s like I become my very own fairy-godmother and POOF, all fixed! I hate this misconception that because we’re living in a global pandemic, the only acceptable attire is comfy and casual. Not on my watch. I have a few brand new shirts and pants hanging in my closet that say otherwise. During this crazy time, it can be hard to feel good, whether it’s in terms of confidence, social life, work, etc. So just hear me out, try getting ready into a full work outfit even if you’re virtual. Try dressing up for dinner with friends or a significant other, even if you do dinner at home. I swear it makes the experience more enjoyable.

Reason 2: Your cute clothes miss you!

It’s truly sad if you have all these adorable clothes just sitting in your closet not being used. No more letting those cute heels and handbags collect dust bunnies. We didn’t spend money on these clothes for nothing, so you bet I still wear all mine. I also live for when someone says my outfit is cute or asks me where I bought something. It makes me feel so fashionable. The best is when you get to reply, “Marshalls, $15 dollars, on sale!” Always have to share your good finds, especially if it’s a bargain. But seriously, your fashion-forward wardrobe is missing you so go show it some love.

Reason 3: This pandemic is going to end eventually…. Well, at least I hope!

Don’t let this Covid-19 pandemic let you get too comfortable. We’re going to return to a somewhat normal lifestyle eventually. By the look of how the vaccines are going, hopefully, that time is soon. When we return to normal life you’ll have to go back to getting dressed up, at least most of the time. We have to keep ourselves in a semi-normal routine so that we don’t forget how the world actually operates. Even though a designated day at the office to wear sweatpants and an old oversized sweatshirt sounds great, it’s not realistic! If you get dressed up a few days of the week for your currently virtual job, it will be easier to get back into a full routine later.

DISCLAIMER:

Ending with this because I want to make sure not to offend anyone! It’s totally okay to dress down and be comfortable. In no way do I want you to think you need to be in heels and dresses every day. Our feet can’t handle that lifestyle. I’m just speaking from experience. I found getting into a good outfit a few days of the week, even during this pandemic, makes me feel happy. I still rock my cute and comfy sweat sets too and love it, so don’t think otherwise. Just hear me out and try to go get dressed into a rocking outfit. I promise it helps me feel like we aren’t living in a world crashing all around us. Maybe it can help you too!
