5 On-Campus Jobs Perfect for Any Busy MSU Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Looking to make some extra cash? Look no further than this site, where you’ll find a large selection of on-campus employers desperately searching for people to hire. With the click of a button, you’ll be directed to job descriptions, required qualifications and other useful information to help you decide if a position is right for you. It’s ridiculously easy, and considering they’re all offered right on campus, you’ll never have to venture much further than your front door.

1. Service Center Representative

Being that it is one of the most desired jobs on campus, this one might be hard to snag, but applying well in advance should help raise those odds. It’s the perfect job for anyone who enjoys minimal responsibility and staying in bed until the last possible moment. Having an 8 a.m. shift is no problem, given that service centers are located in each dorm. Just roll out of bed at 7:50, put on your uniform and head down the hall.

2. Resident Assistant (RA)

Love working with people and solving disputes? You might become a therapist someday, but for now, you’ll do amazingly as an RA. Another popular choice for college students, this position allows you to live in your own room, and it pays all room and board expenses. It’s pretty low maintenance, unless you have a floor full of trouble-makers to deal with. In that case, you can put your problem-solving skills to good use. Bonus: It would make a great addition to your resume.

3. Campus Tour Guide

Being a tour guide is the best job around (but don’t take my word for it). If working with awesome people, representing the face of MSU and flaunting your beautiful campus sound like something you need to be a part of, this job is probably right for you. Your academic, and even extracurricular schedule, are taken very seriously, so there is no need to worry about being scheduled to work in the middle of an exam. On the other hand, feeling like you aren’t getting enough hours of work isn’t a problem either. People are always looking to get shifts covered, so make some money while having fun and touring the beautiful place that is Michigan State University.

4. Usher

Working as an usher at a sporting event is the perfect job for any student interested in athletics. Plus, you’re basically being paid to go watch a game.

5. Student Food Service Assistant

Working in a cafeteria setting may not sound too appealing, but its importance cannot be underestimated. The people are cool, and possibly being able to snack on some of the food you work around is always a bonus. If I haven’t convinced you yet, maybe this will: You might make more money doing this than any other job on campus because they’re always in desperate need of employees.

There are countless more on-campus jobs to look through, so take some time to visit our employment site to browse through your options. Money is good, but the experience is invaluable.

Bekkah Baldwin is a sophomore at Michigan State University and is still undeclared but thinking about majoring in Neuroscience or Psychology with a minor in German. She loves to write, loves her school, and loves the idea of giving young women an outlet for their voices to be heard. So HerCampus seemed like the perfect place for her. When she's not busy studying, she enjoys being the goofy person she is with her friends and watching Netflix (because who doesn't). Her favorite shows include Friends, Gilmore Girls, Parks and Rec and One Tree Hill. Reading is another hobby, as is writing the occasional FanFiction for some of her favorite 80s movies. During summer breaks she works at the movie theatre in her hometown, one of her favorite places in the world and finds herself eating popcorn and drinking slushies all day. She works as a tour guide at MSU and has never stopped being excited about having the opportunity to show off her awesome school. She's 50% German and tends to visit family in Europe once a year. She wants to study abroad for sure and travel the world long after her college days are over. College was a wonderful transition, a place where she instantly felt she belonged and found her best friends, and she can't wait to see what this year as part of the HerCampus team will bring. Go Green!
