5 Essential Oils That Make You Feel Less Lazy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

Ever since I purchased my essential oil diffuser, diffusing oils has been my jam. I realized aromatherapy is the way to go when it comes to just about anything— relieving stress, relaxing, giving a boost of energy, focusing— you name it. And my favorite time to use my diffuser is after I get home from a long day of classes, when I am debating between taking an hour nap or having one (or two) cups of coffee. Fortunately, the essential oil method saves time and the jitters. Here are 5 of my favorite pick-me-up oils that you should try if you want to opt for a quick, natural method to perk up.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is cool and pungent. When diffused, it clears the nasal passages and gives a quick burst of energy. In a 2017 study, it was found that the oil is effective for reducing fatigue and even boosting athletic performance. It also stimulates circulation, enhances concentration, improves memory and increases alertness— how’s that for an all-natural pick me up?

Sweet Orange Oil

This citrus oil will give your room a sweet and tangy aroma, and an immediate boost of zeal. Similar to peppermint oil, a study in 2016 showed that breathing in these sweet fumes can increase athletic performance— perfect for that sluggish feeling post workout.

Cinnamon Oil

Along with giving off those warm and cozy fall vibes, cinnamon oil is great for giving you that spark after a long day of classes. It’s also known to speed up metabolism when ingested, so consider adding it to coffee for a real zinger.

Rosemary Oil

This soft, earthy scent contains Cineole which gives it its energy-boosting kick. In a 2012 study, it was found that breathing the fumes stimulates brain activity, boosts mood and gives a revitalized feeling.

Lemon Oil

Also known as “Liquid Sunshine,” the zest of lemon oil is sure to brighten your day. The oil is known to be refreshing and invigorating, and it promotes circulation. Aside from the effects of diffusing this oil, you can also put a few drops in water or food tohelp maintain a healthy blood pressure and flush toxins from the body— helping with that tired, 3 p.m. post-lunch crash.

So, grab your diffuser and let’s get energized, ladies!
