Case 63 is a Spotify original audio drama starring Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac based on the hit Spanish-language podcast Caso 63.  Moore plays Dr. Eliza Knight, a psychiatrist treating patient Peter Roiter, known as “Case 63” (Isaac). As a fan of sci-fi thrillers, I was intrigued by the ads for the show, and introduced to the concept of audio dramas.
Case 63 claims to be a time traveler from the year 2062, who has come back to the past in order to stop the end of the world. Over the course of 10 episodes which are recorded as therapy sessions, Peter’s background unfolds. He tells the story of a future where diseases and pandemics have made interpersonal relationships almost entirely virtual. A lot of his stories detail a future that seems all too real in a post-COVID world – and far too detailed to be the ramblings of a madman. As Dr. Knight starts to believe Peter, she desperately tries to find concrete proof to corroborate his story. The thrilling twists of the plot move quickly, but it is the perfect pace to keep up.Â
Moore and Isaac’s chemistry is undeniable, even though we can’t see them with our own eyes. Isaac’s voice is filled with charisma, and you can’t help but believe every word Peter says because of it.Â
The episodes themselves are short, averaging about 10 minutes each. The entire season can be listened to in under 2 hours. It’s a thrilling mystery that keeps you on your toes from start to finish, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in science fiction or audio dramas.
