If you’re like me, you constantly like to be listening to music. Whether you’re walking to class, in a car, getting ready in the morning, or doing nothing at all, music is your salvation. It’s not that I’m trying to drown out the rest of the world in my blissful state of Third Eye Blind. Believe me when I say I’m not falling into an anti-social happy medium to where I don’t have to talk to anyone but can instead sit back and observe as if the whole world is a music video either. Or that I’m attempting to muffle out the voices of everyone around me so I don’t have to listen. While some days may consist of just that, it’s also far from it.Â
Â
Cue the heartfelt appreciation of music. I believe music has a technique of capturing every element of a person in its own way. The rift of a guitar, the beat of a drum, the nostalgic lyric in a song. It expresses the words you don’t know how. It’s something you don’t have to explain, either, or even try to. Music resonates happy vibes, relaxation, or any emotion really; it’s not just something to fill the air with.Â
Â
I guess you could call it an obsession. I’m constantly on the lookout for new bands and space to fill my iPod. There will be days where I’m downloading hundreds of songs at a time simply because there is just so much out there. Even so, a library reaching four thousand songs just isn’t enough. There are so many artists that I still don’t know. Artist’s I don’t want to miss out on.Â
Â
That’s the beauty of the music scene; it’s continuously changing. New and upcoming bands are always on the rise so it makes it easier than you thought to discover them. Regardless of the multitude of bands you can find, you always have that one to go back to. No matter how many you might find, your favorite bands are forever embedded with you. That favorite song of yours? Only a click away. And there’s always that anticipation of a new album coming out by a band you’ve stayed true to.
So let me fill you in on the latest bands and albums I’m familiar with. Ranging from indie to alternative to a little bit of rock, these artists have continued to amaze me with their music, old and new.Â

“Pioneer” – The Maine
Â
Released in December, I was instantly hooked on this album. I’ve been an avid listener to The Maine since they began and this album is nothing short of amazing. It’s like nineties-alternative with a grandiose modern twist. I still can’t get enough!

Â
“Major Minor” – Thrice
Â
This album was released back in September making it their most recent. If you’re into rock, Thrice brings it to the table conveying a partial blues-like sound. More raw than previous albums, but delivers an equally addicting sound. Thrice has been around for a while, but continue to prove themselves with each and every album they release. Going thirteen years strong, the band does not plan on breaking up anytime soon but has most recently decided to go on a short hiatus. So while they’re taking a break, catch up on the past seven albums of theirs and make sure to enjoy the latest as well!

“Waves” – Moving Mountains
Â
I know it’s been said before, but there’s something entirely different about this band. I find it difficult comparing them to others because they truly do not sound like anything I’ve ever heard before. The more you listen, the more they grow on you. Even though this album was released back in May, I still find myself listening to it along with all of their other albums on repeat. “The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy” – Nada SurfÂ
Â
Straying away from their marketable, one-hit-wonder song of the nineties, “Popular”, Nada Surf got the recognition they deserved ten years later in 2005 by releasing “Always Love.” One you’re probably familiar with. A song and album that steered away from their traditional indie/rock sound in making a new name for themselves. After all, they are growing older. Just recently, they released “The Stars Are Indifferent to Astronomy” and personally, I genuinely enjoy this album. It’s the type of music you’ll want to listen to when going for a drive because you get that perfect mix of feel-good songs and a little bit of serenity. A sound similar to Death Cab For Cutie. Here’s the kind of music you stop listening to and then later stumble upon it wondering why you ever stopped in the first place.Â

“Beautiful Things” – Anthony Green
Â
From Saosin to Circa Survive, Anthony Green makes a name for himself. His voice? Almost enchanting. His vocal range and ability to deliver? Incredible. Taking on a solo album can be tricky, especially having been in two separate bands but this is no complex for Anthony Green. His voice is so unique that feelings of excitement emerge in anticipation as you wait for the next track.

“Future This” – The Big Pink
Â
If you’re familiar with the song “Domino’s”, all of the credit is rightfully due to these guys. “Future This” is their sophomore album, following their debut of “A Brief History of Love”. Although Future This may be far more simplified than their first album, these guys are something to look out for nonetheless. Mix in a little bit of indie and electronic and welcome The Big Pink into your life.
