Finals week, and the most stressful time at the end of the semester, is among us. I have listed below some tips and tricks to help you have a successful finals week.
Make a Schedule
Before you begin studying, create a study schedule for each of your classes. Write down the days and times of your finals to know which to prioritize. Next, write down the topics you want to review and make sure you block out extra time to spend on topics you found more challenging. After, break up your schedule into shorter sessions with breaks. This will ensure that when you are studying you are more focused, while the breaks will allow you to recharge. When creating your study schedule, make sure you can stick to it and it will keep you on track.
Take Breaks
All nighters are very common for students before finals, but can do more harm than good. Taking breaks are important because you and your brain need time to recharge. Plan out breaks ahead of time. For example: for every hour of studying, give yourself a 10 minute break to relax. Also, make sure that you are getting enough sleep while studying and before the exam. Getting enough sleep will help keep you focused.
Eat Healthy and Stay Hydrated
Getting enough food and water is important while studying because your brain and body need it to function. Eating foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein will give your body the proper energyit needs to perform its best. Avoid sugary and processed foods because you will most likely crash after a while. Also, drinking enough water is important because dehydration can affect your ability to focus.
Go to Study and Review Sessions
If your professor is hosting review sessions, it is a good idea to go. Review sessions are helpful because they may cover topics that will be on the final and allow you to ask any question you may have. You can also create your own study session with your classmates. This can benefit everyone because you can help each other master topics you may be confused on.
Make Practice Tests
After studying your notes and making flashcards, practice tests can help you master material. Try to format questions similar to what they would be on the exam. This will help you understand your material on a deeper level while studying. It will also prepare you for test day by allowing you to figure out any topics you may need to go back and review and also how to pace yourself on the exam.
I hope that some of these tips will help you during finals week this semester. Good luck!
