Ever since I was little, I have always had two favorite months of the year: October and November. One could attribute this to October being my dad’s birthday month and November being mine, but I think it’s more than that. Fall feels crisp, fresh, and new while simultaneously bringing about darker vibes with Halloween approaching.

Unfortunately, being a college student who is on a certain schedule, the month of October arriving can bring up anxiety in the thick of the fall semester and midterms approaching quicker than expected. I have the tendency (more often than I would like to admit) to fall victim to this stressful and negative mindset. So, this October I am making sure to celebrate to my heart’s content and rekindle my love and appreciation for the autumn months. Here are 4 of my favorite TV shows that I have been watching to get into the fall spirit.

#1- Gilmore Girls

This is a classic fall show for the way that the town of Stars Hollow transports you to crisp leaves and the smell of apple cider. This is one of my personal favorite shows for the characters and their dramatic, yet lighthearted storylines. This is a perfect show to cozy up to on a chilly day. Many of the scenes serve as inspiration to stop by a cider mill or attend your local farmer’s market. “Gilmore Girls” is available to stream on Netflix.

#2- American Horror Story: Coven

This show is for those who lean into the spooky, Hallows Eve energy that the fall season brings. “Coven” is definitely for horror fans, but as someone that does not usually gravitate towards shows like this, I think anybody could watch it and enjoy some aspect of it. This show will definitely get you thinking about Halloween, as it features a sinister group of witches and various things of the occult. Considering that this show is a part of the “American Horror Story” franchise, some parts are downright disturbing, I recommend having a light-hearted show on standby if the show gets to be too much. Stream “AHS” on Hulu with a normal subscription.

#3- You

This is one of my favorite TV shows so I may be biased, but You is a must-watch for the fall season. For first time viewers, welcome to the mysterious character of Joe Goldberg, and warning… you’re in for a wild ride. Every season has its own sinister, yet cozy feel to it. I found that the second season is perfect to watch while making soup. What’s better to do when the leaves start falling? “You” is available on Netflix.

#4- The Vampire Diaries

This show is a must-watch every fall; the town of Mystic Falls may be small, but it has a big secret. Spoiler alert, the big secret involves vampires. Nothing makes you think about the fall season and Halloween like immortal monsters who live amongst humans, and a love triangle to keep things interesting. The characters all have exciting, yet slightly strange, storylines. You can stream on Max or Hulu.

However you decide to celebrate this fall, I hope you enjoy the season and cherish the last few months without snow. Enjoy a cinnamon-sugar doughnut just for me, if you can.
