Getting Involved at MSU!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

It isn’t news to any of us how important volunteering is.  It’s a way for one to give back to the community while gaining experience and building a resume and character.  Despite knowing all the benefits of volunteering, it is difficult to devote extra time and energy to something that you’re not passionate about; but at the same time, it’s hard to be passionate about something if you don’t know how you want to help or how to get involved.

That’s why when my friends asked me to join Camp Casey MSU I jumped at the chance.  Camp Casey is a non-profit organization for children with cancer.  CCMSU is a club designed to raise funds for Camp Casey to bring Horsey House Calls (a day of horseback riding, arts and crafts, food and fun) to the children’s homes within the Lansing area.

The opportunity to be a part of something that makes kids so happy each summer was the selling point for me.  I knew that my friends and I together could start something big here at Michigan State and get other people excited to help too.

CCMSU became an official MSU club in late January 2012 and there are two informational meetings on Feb. 22 and 23 for all those interested in joining and helping this great cause.  CCMSU offers great volunteer experience and is an excellent resume builder.  There is room for everyone on the CCMSU team, from event planning to fundraising to participating at Horsey House Calls!  If you can’t make it to the meeting, feel free to leave a comment on the event page or email CCMSU at ccmsu@camp-casey.org and follow us on Twitter @CCMSU!
