Healthy, Happy and Motivated

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

It’s the start of a new school year, so why not make it the start of a new you as well? With the fitness trend booming throughout the world, it’s becoming easier to find the initial motivation to begin to live a healthier lifestyle. However, it isn’t always easy to keep this momentum going and still have a passion for being the best person you can be and in the best shape. That being said, Her Campus wants to provide you with a ton of ways to incorporate motivation into your life and encourage everyone to be healthy because a healthy person is typically a happier person!

Pinterest is an aeesome form of motivation and fitness ideas. The section called “Health & Fitness” not only provides endless pieces of motivation, it also has recipes, shopping lists, workout plans and music playlists that can excite you to go outside and start a killer workout in this beautiful fall weather!

If you have a Tumblr account, try searching for fitness tags such as; health, fitspo, fitness, etc. By following blogs such as “Katy Gracefully” and “Fit-Personality” anytime you open your dashboard or visit a blog you will see inspiring quotes, pictures and more that make you start to think about eating habits or physical activity. Often times if things like that are in the back of your mind you may start to be more conscious when it comes to eating out at restaurants or taking the elevator, you might find yourself thinking of getting a grilled chicken salad and taking the stairs.

Since technology is such a huge part of our lives and most people have Instagram and Twitter accounts, many people have started fitness pages dedicated to all sorts of themes. Follow a few of your favorites that post yummy recipes, pictures that inspire you or whatever you need to get excited about health. So when scrolling through your friends’ pictures of “throw back Thursday” or “selfie Sunday”, you’ll see the fitness pages and get excited to take a walk around campus to see the start of fall instead of watching a movie!

What a lot of people may find helpful is something called a motivation wall. Put up pictures of healthy women, quotes that inspire you, yummy healthy food or even pieces of clothing you want to fit into. Having an area of your room that you’ll constantly see with this positive connotation will be such a driving force to live a healthy lifestyle.

One of the biggest ways to lose motivation is by looking at the numbers and the numbers alone.  While it can be good to keep track of the scale, letting it run your life and have the potential to ruin your day can be detrimental. Many people find it better to just pay attention to how your body feels, extra energy you can or when your clothes get baggy. We understand an easy way to keep track of progress can be the scale but try not to let it get you down if you don’t necessarily like the number you see.

Kick off the fall semester with these tips on how to get and stay motivated to be in the best shape you can be! You’ll be amazed how good you feel by taking control of your motivation and how easy it is to be inspired.
