I Wish They Would Remember Us, I Wish They Cared About Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

What does my right to my

Own

Body

Have to do with rich white men?

What does her right to her

Own

Body

Have to do with the old man yelling on the corner by CVS

What does his right to his

Own

Body

Have to do with their beliefs that the church gave them

What does their right to their

Own

Body

Have to do with children that went to get birth control for their cramps

Why are we losing rights because they don’t like our choices?

Why are they forcing their beliefs onto my tiny body?

Why can’t I decide what I want to do?

Why can’t we choose if and when and how to have a child?

Why are we living in a dystopia?

They aren’t including non-cis women in their laws

Even though it affects their uteruses

They aren’t including BIPOC

Or those already with children and they can’t afford more

Or poor people

Or disabled people

Or unhoused people

Or undocumented immigrants

Or children

Or or or

They keep forgetting us

They keep forgetting us.

I wish they would remember us

I wish they cared about us.

Kattiah Richardson (she/they) is currently a student at Michigan State University double majoring in both English and Women's and Gender Studies with a double minor in Jewish Studies and in LGBTQ+ and Sexuality Studies with the hopes of becoming a professor. They are a part of many student organizations on campus: Planned Parenthood Generation Action (President), We are Queens (Vice President), Spartans for Israel (Liberal Outreach Chair), and, of course, Her Campus MSU (Staff Writer and Editor)! Kattiah is also a Campus Trendsetter through Her Campus and a Resident Assistant at their campus. Aside from university-related activities, they love learning more about their faith in Judaism, activism, reading, writing, dancing, babysitting, spending time with family, and (badly) singing!
