What sport do you play at MSU? Women’s Track and Field

What made you decide to continue your athletics in college? It was an easy decision to continue athletics in college once I received the opportunity because it has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. The life lessons and relationships that I have created along the way are very unique and something I am forever grateful for.

What was the number one draw for you at MSU? The number one draw for me at Michigan State was the competitive drive and expectation for excellence that is put on display through academics and athletics.

What is your favorite part about being a student athlete? My favorite part about being a student athlete is definitely the relationships that are created between teammates, coaches, other athletes, our advisors, trainers, the list goes on and on.

What is the hardest part about being a student athlete? The hardest part about being a student athlete is definitely time management. Our schedules are very demanding, and it is a challenge to balance everything out and enjoy the college experience along the way.

If you could give advice to a freshman student athlete what would you say to him/her? To a freshman student athlete, I would tell him/her to stay confident. It is a huge step coming to college in the athletic and academic world, and it is easy to get down on yourself and want to give up. If you maintain an inner confidence, nothing or no one will be able to bring you down.

My name is Shelby, I am an Advertising major pursuing minors in both PR and Graphic Design. I love being around people and experiencing new cultures, ideas, and beliefs. Some of my best memories here at MSU are spent with my best friends. My all time favorite quote is Maya Angelou's "I've learned people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
