Name: Shelby Robinson
Major: Creative Advertising
Title: Director of Social Media and Community Outreach for the Media Sandbox
Â
What exactly is the Media Sandbox?
The Media Sandbox is an awesome collective of inventive, driven, and talented individuals. Both a curriculum and a community, it provides hands-on experiences, and promotes creative thinking. It allows you to carry out your passions. It encourages you. It’s the real deal.
Â
So, what do you do?
I schedule posts for our social media accounts and interact with brands, departments and other creatives on the Internet to build brand awareness for the Media Sandbox. I also built the Street Team program as well as the Media Sandbox Student Organization. The goal of these two groups is to develop crazy guerrilla marketing tactics (like painting a van and driving it to SXSW) as well as plan big events for the Sandbox.
Â
Many students understand the importance of work experience and internships, but many never think to search inside their own college. So, how did hear about this position? And, what made you take the leap?
Surprisingly, I heard about the position on Facebook. Who would have thought? Pushing my limits is something that I firmly believe in, and I wanted to challenge myself.
Â
What project are you proudest of?
I am constantly learning and loving and then learning that I don’t love that last project anymore…. It’s all one big learning process. But my favorite project I did was a re-brand/campaign for the MSU Department of Forestry.
Â
What do you do in your spare time? (Hobbies)
I love shooting photos, reading beautifully printed design magazines, listening to music and cuddling with my cat. Oh, and coffee…always.
Â
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I’d love to work as a blogger or social media director for Free People or Kinfolk Magazine. Or, I’d love to live abroad. Who doesn’t want to live abroad?
