Since the pandemic, performers have struggled to settle back into a creative outlet. I was personally affected by the pandemic with the cancellation of several theater projects set to debut in March and April of 2020, before my high school graduation. After the pandemic, I searched for a group to return to the stage for many years before finding out about an opportunity on campus.Â
Viridis is one of several glee club classes available to Michigan State students. While not limited to students enrolled in the class, Viridis is geared towards treble voices. The translation of the choral ensemble’s name is green. Just like the one of MSU’s signature colors. Students from all majors are encouraged to join in creating a variety of music to present to their families and peers at the conclusion of each semester.Â
Activities are not limited to music. The club aspect of the class organizes dinners, bar nights, and even an occasional formal for members to attend. Some events are planned in coordination with other glee clubs on campus to enjoy activities as a community. These team-building opportunities allow for the groups to celebrate the uniqueness of individuals and create lasting friendships.Â
Joining Viridis is one of the most rewarding college experiences a student can have. It is a place to find new friendships, skills, and have fun. It is not only about learning what makes a large team cohesive but how to flourish as an individual. Crucial to navigating life beyond college and bringing personal strengths to benefit the world around us. Â
