Summer Accessories: What You Need to Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

An Airy Pom-Pom Scarf

While summer scarves may seem contradictory, trust me on this one—they’re not!  A light, cottony scarf in a bright hue adds the perfect pop of color to an otherwise simple outfit.  Plus, the cute pom-pom trim is right on trend.  Try wearing your scarf with a white tee and denim cutoffs, or over a solid-colored sundress for cool evenings.

A Fringed Bag

We can’t all make it to Coachella this spring, but we sure can dress like it!  A neutral, fringy satchel toughens up a super feminine look.  It’s the handbag equivalent of the leather jacket.  So, now you can look less ‘teenybopper at a One Direction concert’ and more ‘cool hippie at Woodstock.   Pair a fringed bag with a lacey white dress and you’ll look concert-ready in no time.

A Statement Necklace

To make a statement of course!  As Marie Claire Fashion Director Nina Garcia tweeted, “The statement necklace is the fashion equivalent of a supporting actress that steals the show.”  A big, pretty necklace instantly elevates any outfit.

Flirty Belts

Cutsey?  Yes.  But in this case, that’s not a bad thing.  A belt with a bow, flower or saying adds cheeky charm to warm weather dressing.  Cinch a sundress or pair of high-waisted shorts with one of these adorable belts.
