October is also known as Mental Health awareness month and it’s not something that is regularly reminded of. It’s important since one in five Americans experience a mental health issue. There’s a lack of information and resources all around the U.S. and around the world. The important takeaway from this would be that you are not alone and that there is always a way to find help.
Everyone at a certain point in their life experiences some sort of anxiety, stress, sadness, and many other feelings that just go away. However, that doesn’t happen to everyone. There’s a percentage of people that live with these constant emotions and feelings on a day-to-day basis and find different ways to cope and manage. They believe that normal life is one where you live constantly afraid or with a feeling that you are meant to be alone. They struggle to believe anything else. In the beginning, they struggle to understand what is happening and why they feel a certain way and receive a variety of answers. Very few times the option of visiting a professional comes up and most of the time is because of the negative aroma that comes with it.
Decades have gone by and we only see an increase in mental health issues not only among Americans but everywhere in the world. This is because we are learning to just deal with these emotions and feelings that later on just drown us in the future and create more problems. When left untreated, not only do you cause problems for yourself but those around you. It’s important to tackle these problems once we start to face them and get the help we need. Just like we do when we get sick. Time has evolved, but this doesn’t mean that other people’s ideas have changed. Many people, to this day, don’t see the importance of mental health.
This evolution can be seen on the internet and in certain institutions. Now you can be connected to a professional through social media or even websites. Some schools now offer a psychologist to be a part of the school staff and provide the help that any student needs. There are a variety of avenues trying to help and raise awareness to help those who don’t have the accessibility. There is always a helping hand somewhere and there is no reason why anyone should have to live life feeling anything but happy.
