There are so many different songs that we listen to during the holiday season. Some are awesome and are the catchiest tunes while others are less than great and often repeated. Here are the top 5 best and top 5 worst Christmas songs in my opinion.

Top 5 Best Christmas Songs

  1. All I Want for Christmas is You

I know that this is played a lot, but I really can’t say that I’ve gotten tired of it and I know that many people agree with me as well. This song will always be a part of Christmas all over the world as people embrace their inner Mariah Carey.

  1. Last Christmas

Just like the first song, “Last Christmas” is a fun, catchy song that everyone can enjoy. There are so many covers and styles of the song that everyone usually likes at least one version of it.

  1. Winter Wonderland

This Christmas song is beautiful and brings out the very spirit of the holiday season. Building a snowman, walking through the snow, and relaxing by the fire at the end of the day; it’s the embodiment of a snowy Christmas.

  1. Santa Claus is Comin’ To Town

This song always gets me in the Christmas spirit. I grew up watching the claymation Christmas films like I’m sure most of us have, and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town was definitely a favorite movie of mine. This song makes me think of the holidays I had as a child and the nostalgia is what puts this song on the list.

  1. It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

This is the fifth song on my top Christmas songs list because when it plays, you know it’s time to start decorating and getting gifts because Christmas is here. It’s usually the first Christmas song I hear on the radio when the holiday season begins and it always gets me in the holly-jolly spirit.

Top 5 Worst Christmas Songs

  1. Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer

Yes, I know this is a classic and a favorite of many, but I have a reason for putting it on this list. This song is so repetitive that I just ultimately get sick of it after hearing it so many times. There have been many times when it has played on the radio and another cover of it plays directly after it. I love the movie but this isn’t the only Christmas song in the world. Play other songs on the radio station, please!

  1. Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

This song is far from a fun, sweet Christmas song. It’s literally about Santa killing someone’s grandma. It’s not like the movie, which in itself is pretty bad, where the grandma just gets amnesia and is taken care of by Santa. She is murdered and the song warns people about Santa and how he shouldn’t be allowed to fly the sleigh. I know it’s meant to be funny, but it’s just not really my kind of Christmas song.

  1. Santa Baby

I don’t think I have to elaborate too much on why I don’t like this song. It is too over-sexualized and makes me legit uncomfortable. I don’t want to be in the car with my parents listening to a woman singing seductively to Santa. Please just stop.

  1. The Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas Song

This song is so annoying and I don’t feel like doing fun Christmas activities when I hear it. I feel like yelling at them like Dave when I hear their shrill voices. They are adorable but please don’t let them sing Christmas songs.

  1. I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

This song is on the list mostly for my grudge against it. I had to sing this song for an elementary Christmas pageant and it has haunted me ever since.

Christmas songs are some of the most fun and widely loved types of songs in the world. Everyone has their favorites and least favorites, but each song is special to someone and that’s what makes the holiday special for them and that’s part of what makes Christmas the most wonderful time of the year
