What I Want to Read This Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MSU chapter.

I will admit that I am a little behind on my Goodreads Challenge this year, but I’m really hoping to spend some more time reading once the semester comes to a close. Here are some books that I’m looking forward to reading this year.

1. Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi

I really want to read this book because, in a way, I feel like it will connect me closer to my South Asian roots. I have never read a book by a South Indian female before, so I’m super excited to understand the hype around this novel.

2. No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai

I have heard so many good things about this novel, and I am so excited to read it. I wanted to branch away from my traditional authors and try a well-acclaimed new book.

3. The Trouble With Being Born by Emil Cioran

There was a TikTok I saw that said this was one of the greatest books he had ever read. Sounds promising! This book was written in 1998, so I’m interested to see how Cioran’s thoughts play out and how it can relate to my own life.

4. The Error In Our Ways by Eric Jordan Campbell

This collection of poetry is apparently a beautiful compilation of feeling and emotions, and I can’t wait to start reading it! I love anything that I can feel vulnerable with, so this poetry book may solve all my problems.

What’s on your reading list this year? Try a new genre or read that sequel you always meant to read. I wish I had more time for reading, but I believe I need to start making the time for it.

A Michigan State University student by day, an 8-hour sleeper by night Aditi would best describe herself as a "rather simple enigma." As she embarks on her college journey, Aditi cherishes the simple things in life: a cup of coffee, some pastel post-it notes, and her ever-growing succulent.
