The Best Dorm Breakfasts for the On-The-Go Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

Like many people my age, I am not a morning person. I do not enjoy an early class, and I enjoy an early morning walk to the dining hall even less. I would much rather spend my morning in my room before my classes begin. This has caused me to neglect the first and most important meal of the day. Recently, I decided to find alternatives to my breakfast that are easily made in my room. This is my list and tips for a dorm room breakfast.

1. Almond Butter and Fruit

I have found that I feel a lot better in the mornings when I start my day with some protein. The small almond butter packets at the grocery store are an easy, delicious, and protein full breakfast. Pairing it with some fruit is enough to fill me up for the morning and get out the door quickly.

2. Overnight Oats

This is one of my favorite recipes for breakfast even when I am not in a rush to get out the door. It serves the same purpose as the almond butter but it allows me so many more creative flavor options. I usually make them in a mason jar for easy storage, travel, and measurement. These are easy to make with ingredients from my dining hall and bring back to my room. Here is a link to some nice recipes.

3. Yogurt

I love yogurt. It is easy to keep in a dorm fridge and is a quick and easy meal. I really like the Siggi’s brand because they have good flavors and are very filling. It is the perfect thing to tide me over until lunch.

4. Granola Bars

This may seem very simple and straightforward, however there are so many options.  You can find almost any flavor combination you desire. They do not require refrigeration, they taste great, and they are probably the quickest option you will find. I prefer the Sunbelt Bakery ones.

It may be a short list, but these little meals have been a great addition to my otherwise breakfast-less morning. I enjoy all of these with a cup of tea or coffee and my last minute homework. I hope someone else finds them tasty and helpful as well.
