I drove to my wax appointment repeatedly having to reinsure myself that it won’t be painful. Just the thought of sticky honey-like wax and the white strips that stick to your skin before the technician rips it off is enough to send shivers down my spine. So just like my previous waxing experiences, I cringed.
I was already late to my appointment by 10 minutes, but the European Wax Center’s staff was so welcoming that I didn’t have to think twice about whether I could still have my wax done. My wait time to see my technician was less than 5 minutes during which I sat in the modern-chic lounge/seating area and made conversation with the friendly desk staff. We chatted about college life and local news, which made me feel so homey that it was hard to believe I was having pre-wax anxiety a few minutes ago in the car.
I continued the conversation with my technician who joined us a few minutes later. She explained the procedure (the basics that any woman who has gotten waxes before would be familiar with) and ensured me that it would be painless. From having had waxing experience on multiple parts of my body, I have been told over and over again that it would not hurt. Then she began to explain the type of wax used by the European Wax Center: Comfort Wax. Comfort Wax is a specially crafted wax made for a painless treatment by attaching itself to hair follicles rather than a patch of your skin. Have you ever peeled candle wax off of your fingers? Imagine that but in a quick-strip action.
The best part about my wax experience at the European Wax Center was the ability of the staff, particularly my technician, to have a relaxing and comforting experience. It doesn’t even sound like I was getting a wax. After the going through a couple times with Comfort Wax, my technician pampered me with body treatments like a hair serum to help prevent bumps and a calming cream for a soothing finish. I wasn’t sure if I was having a wax or a mini spa experience, but I enjoyed every moment of it. It was the type of waxing that I could return to without cringing on my car ride or thinking about the pain of medieval wax strips.
Before you ask, I can assure you that European Wax Center is affordable. A typical Brazilian wax would cost between $80 and $150 depending on the salon. But at the European Wax Center, it’s only $47. But what’s actually even better is their unlimited wax passes that allow you to visit any of their 500+ locations around the country as many times as you’ll need. This deal is such a steal, but if you’re not looking for a full year wax service, you they offer prepaid wax passes that you can purchase for better savings. Their Student Wax Pass is great for the summer because with three waxes, you receive one free wax – so let the bikini season begin.
Surprisingly unlike many other waxing salons or spas, the European Wax Center carries its own line of products that are catered towards their clients – with particular attention to exfoliation, hair follicle care, and relaxation of your skin. I can’t believe I’m saying this but waxing has just gotten a lot easier and pain-free. And even though there’s still snow on the ground, I’m so ready for the beach. So bring on the bikinis. Now, only if I could make going to the gym just as easy.
