As lucky as we are to have great food options here at Mount Holyoke, I’m sure it’s safe to assume that all of us have the occasional (or frequent…) urge to get off campus and explore other dining options in the area. Thankfully, the Pioneer Valley has a great deal to offer our rumbling tummies that can help us escape the dining halls. Here are some of the gems I’ve encountered over the past few years in the Valley. It’s hard to narrow the list down since there are so many good eats to be had! Remember, I keep a college budget in mind… but I have included a few suggestions for the joyful occasions when your parents are in town to treat you.
Mama Iguana’s (Amherst): Although personally I am lured in by the margaritas and abundance of tequila options (apparently the largest selection in New England), the authentic Mexican fare is awesome. You can go for the tapas menu if you’re not too hungry, or go all out with the tacos, burritos, tamales, or any of their tasty entrees. It is owned by/affiliated by Spoleto, which is another (Italian) restaurantworth a try.
Bueno Y Sano (Amherst/Northampton): Burritos, burritos, burritos! Or maybe a salad, but no, just get a burrito. Pack it full, stuff your face, love your life.
La Veracruza (Amherst): Another restaurant famous for its burritos and salsas, although more of an authentic experience than Bueno Y Sano. The burritos are huge, and the hot sauce is HOT.
