Food in the Valley: When You’re Hungover and Need Brunch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mt Holyoke chapter.

As lucky as we are to have great food options here at Mount Holyoke, I’m sure it’s safe to assume that all of us have the occasional (or frequent…) urge to get off campus and explore other dining options in the area. Thankfully, the Pioneer Valley has a great deal to offer our rumbling tummies that can help us escape the dining halls. Here are some of the gems I’ve encountered over the past few years in the Valley. It’s hard to narrow the list down since there are so many good eats to be had! Remember, I keep a college budget in mind… but I have included a few suggestions for the joyful occasions when your parents are in town to treat you.

Lone Wolf (Amherst): An absolute must if you find yourself hungover and in Amherst., which is highly likely at some point during your Mt. Holyoke years. If you’re not ordering coffee with your meal, get yourself a Mimosa. The omelettes are divine!

Black Sheep (Amherst): Great sandwiches, salads, pastries – wonderful for a quick lunch to catch up with a friend or to munch on something while you do some schoolwork. This little shop has yummy vegan dessert options, better than you’ll find at most other places. Also has a good selection of coffee beans!

Loose Goose Cafe (Amherst): Another enticing spot for savory sandwiches, be it breakfast or lunch. Be warned, they’re not a small meal. The salads are also delightful if you’re looking for a lighter option.

Well, there you have it! There are so many options to be found, and this is just a sliver of the restaurants I’ve found to be especially worth wile. Get at it, foodies!
