In one of my recent articles, I wrote about five ways you can feel like it’s spring while it’s still winter. One of my pro-tips was to listen to old spring playlists or music that makes you nostalgic of springs-past. Now it actually is spring, and I thought I’d share more of my favorite songs to play this season.
I have an attachment to these songs and connect them to springtime memories. For example, the front porch of my house gets really warm in the sunlight and I vividly remember listening to “Buttercup” by Hippocampus while doing my homework after school on a particularly sunny day. “Buttercup” is uplifting and fun, which is necessary for getting through the rest of the semester and celebrating the warmer weather.
When I listen to “Sovay” by Andrew Bird, I am transported to afternoons spent lounging outside on my Grandma’s quilt with my dog—me, with an iced coffee, and her, with a tennis ball. The song is whimsical and light, no doubt we’ve napped to it many times.
Most essential, “Sands” by Summer Underground is one of my all-time favorites and I listen to it year-round. My cousin introduced it to me, and I’ll be forever grateful! It’s so delicate and soothing I think it’s absolutely perfect for springtime.
I hope you will enjoy this spring playlist. Listen to it while taking a walk on a beautiful day, or even while studying in your room with the window open. Additionally, there are other curated spring playlists on music platforms like Apple Music and Spotify. Happy listening!
“Sands” by Summer Underground
Last night out on the sands
At 1 am
You took me by the hand
Remember what you said?
“Souls” by Hippocampus
Back to the streets where the kids are near
Love was around the corner from you
You play it well like an old-time jive
Girl, I swear, I’ve never seen you look so alive
“The Girl” by City and Colour
While I’m off chasing my own dreams
Sailing around the world
Please know that I’m yours to keep
My beautiful girl
“(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano” by Sampha
You know I left, I flew the nest
And you know I won’t be alone
And in my chest, you know me best
And you know I’ll be back home
“All the Ways” by Wet
When you’re here, take all of it
‘Cause when we’re done there’s nothing left
Haunting me, I hear the sound
I close my eyes, I push it down
“The Lime Tree” by Trevor Hall
Save me love, save me all the time
I’ll wash you down with a simple sip of wine
Toast my glass to all my loved ones, uh
To let them know that the stars, well, they still shine
“Buttercup” by Hippocampus
Lighten up, buttercup, get a hobby
Yeah, swing sucker swing, finish sobbin’
“Deadwater” by Wet
Shaky, but I believe
There are better things for me
“Puzzle Pieces” by Saint Motel
I g-g-g-g-gotta say honestly
When you look at me
It’s like a gun goes off
Deep inside of me
I can hardly move
I can barely breathe
Near your features
“No Woman” by Whitney
I’ve been going through a change
I might never be sure
I’m just walking in a haze
I’m not ready to turn
“Sedona” by Houndmouth
Well hey, little Hollywood, you’re gone but, you’re not forgot
“Supercut” by Lorde
In my head I do everything right
When you call when you call I forgive and not fight
“For a While” by Bellorage
But my face fits in the space beneath your chin
The space beneath your chin, it says:
Hide for a while,
Cry for a while,
Oh I will, one last time
“Sesame Syrup” by Cigarettes After Sex
You’ve had a long list of lovers
But none of them matter to you except me
I’ve had a long list of lovers
But none of them matter to me except you
“Sovay” by Andrew Bird
Sovay, Sovay, Sovay
All along the day
“Clean” by The Japanese House
From the movements you made
And the soft gaze you gave
You understood
Heart by Omar Apollo
What you wanna do right now in my head
Screaming for the truth I’m sure you know that
“Hard Feelings/Loveless” by Lorde
Hard feelings
These are what they call hard feelings of love
When the sweet words and fevers
All leave us right here in the cold, oh, oh
Alone with the hard feelings of love
“Ugotme” by Omar Apollo
‘Cause honestly, you got me gone
From everyone
“Vacation” by Hippocampus
With all that’s fell in our laps
You’d think that peace would come and find us
