Rihanna’s Fenty beauty line just had its first birthday, with a party to celebrate! In a JCPenney Sephora store in Brooklyn, NY, 150 loyal users enjoyed samples of the new Diamond Anniversary Collection, mini-makeovers, and to top it all off, a visit from Rihanna herself!
Sure enough, Rihanna floated towards her fans in a stunning magenta strapless gown. Her makeup was done by the Fenty Beauty global makeup artist, Priscilla Ono.
Even though there were over one hundred people at the party, Rihanna made sure to feel like every person was meant to be there. This is what her makeup line aims to do as well.
Makeup companies like Maybelline, Nars, L’Oreal, NYX, and more are highly reputable brands. When new companies pop up in the cosmetics market, customers are wary. Usually, people have set products that they purchase and repurchase each time they run out. These start-up companies don’t often get very far, unless they have an innovative idea. Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty has taken massive steps since its launch, but was extremely popular from the start. One of the biggest draws (besides the beautifully luminous Trophy Wife highlighter) was the range of foundations aimed to fit every skin color imaginable.
Rihanna created an iconic 40-color line, focusing on traditionally hard-to-match shades. She wanted to make sure that women felt included and not like they were forced to be in uniform with everyone else. They could make their skin look like skin, and they could be who they wanted to be.
Fenty has been praised for her work on diversity, not just nationally, but globally. The faces of her company include women like Halima Aden, Leomie Anderson, Paloma Elsesser, and Selena Forest. Soon after this campaign was brought to the public, other competing makeup brands started to include women of color in their own advertisements.
The makeup brand has won several awards, including Time Magazine’s Top 25 Best Inventions, and expresses hope that it continues to create more products in the future. Fenty mascara, blush, and skincare may not be coming very soon!
