As we grow older and begin to age, it is crucial that we take care of our skin. After all, it’s important to feel comfortable in one’s own skin. According to Forbes, “skincare is the biggest segment in the beauty industry with its global sales expected to cross $130 billion by 2019.” Face masks are one of the many products that contribute to this growing industry.  They are simple and quite effortless to use and apply to your skincare routine. Not only are they a great way to treat yourself and relax, but face masks can be beneficial to your skin’s health. If you’re unsure of what face masks are suitable for your skin, here’s the ultimate guide to help you choose the perfect one!

Gel Masks

Gel masks are perfect for hydrating dry skin without providing it with extra oils. They are excellent for acne-prone skin or combination skin that needs that extra boost of hydration in certain parts of your face. Gel masks are also ideal for calming redness. They’re the perfect masks during the summertime when you get those pesky sunburns.

Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are the easiest of masks to apply because they already come pre-cut holes for your eyes, mouth, and nose. All you have to do is apply the sheet to your face and voila! There isn’t even a need to rinse off your face. You can simply peel off the mask after the designated time, and then apply your favorite moisturizer to lock in the hydration. Similarly to gel masks, they’re great for hydrating one’s skin and packing in essential anti-aging ingredients.

Clay Masks

Clay masks are essential for oily, acne-prone, combination, or normal skin. They usually contain oil-absorbing ingredients to help clear one’s pores. Yet, it is important to be aware of whether or not a face mask cracks on your skin because this usually means that it doesn’t contain hydrating ingredients to balance out the drying effect.

Not only is the type of face masks you choose for your skin important, but the ingredients in the mask as well:

Charcoal masks are essential for detoxifying the skin.

Charcoal can absorb up to thousands of times of its own mass in harmful substances. According to Livestrong.com, “activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin” which is beneficial to those with acne-prone skin.

Face masks containing cucumber are also great because cucumbers are made up of mostly water, which means that they’re perfect for hydrating the skin.

They’re also helpful for revitalizing skin. They contain anti-inflammatory properties that can help with redness and breakouts. Cucumber masks are great for dry skin, and they’re also cooling which means they can reduce dark circles and puffiness. Cucumber masks are also great for treating sunburns.

Rose masks help replenish and rejuvenate skin.

Rose oils are also helpful in reducing redness and inflammation around the skin. Rose is also enriched in vitamin C, which means it is beneficial in skin cells from damage. Rose is great for dry skin, as the oils found in roses can help lock in moisture. It is also great for toning and tightening one’s pores and giving the skin a dewy complexion!

Avocado masks can also provide many benefits to one’s skin.

They are rich in antioxidants and vitamins which are essential in replenishing the skin. Avocados are useful for moisturizing the skin, healing acne, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, and exfoliating the skin. Avocado face masks are perfect for any type of skin because they can help hydrate dry skin, but they’re also helpful for decreasing oil levels because they balance out the amount of oil in one’s skin.

I hope this was helpful and I promise that your skin will thank you! Happy pampering!
