New York City, the name itself just sounds perfect. While of course there is nothing perfect in the world I feel that NYC is close. When you are in the city, there is a sort of magic happening around. But you can’t put your finger on what it is exactly, but you can sure feel it.
There is a song called “NYC” from the play (and movie) Annie. This song I feel best describes how the city can make you feel. I think these lines say it all,
Then I can’t get enoughEnough of the cab drivers answering backIn the language far from pure
Enough of frankfurters answering backBrother, you know you’re in NYCToo busy, too crazyToo hot, too cold, too lateI’m sold again on NYCÂ Â
There is always something to do; they don’t call it “The City That Never Sleeps” for nothing! From early in the morning to late at night there are always people moving around. You can see a ballet at Lincoln Center, a hockey game at MSG, art at the MET, the list could go on and on.
That being said there are millions of places to eat with tons of different kinds of food. You could probably eat every meal at a different place for well over 20 years and still not have gone to all of them. There are places that every one knows to tiny hole in the wall places (they are normally the best). You could go to Little Italy for Italian food or Lenox Hill for Japanese food. There is something for everyone.
Most people think of Manhattan when they think of the City but Manhattan is just one of five beautiful boroughs NYC has to offer. For example Queens, you not have realized but you can go to a beach. The Rockaways have beautiful beaches where you can lay all summer long soaking up the summer sun. Want to see 4,000 animals in one spot head on over to The Bronx? The Bronx Zoo is huge; you could definitely spent two days walking around it and still not see all the animals. Want to see beautiful views of Manhattan’s skyline? Staten Island is for you; just take the Staten Island Ferry. Looking for some fun stop by Coney Island in Brooklyn. There are so many things to do outside of Manhattan. These boroughs all come together to help make NYC the place it is today!
The atmosphere of The City calls to people. You never know what will happen! Will I see someone dressed as a cat today? Or will I walk onto a movie set? This is part of what makes the city so magical. The everyday life of New York City has an affect on people. It makes you fall in love! If you have ever seen a picture of the city covered in a free blanket of snow before anyone as touched it, you will know exactly what I mean.
Any season in NYC can make you fall in love. Walking through the Botanical Garden in Brooklyn during the spring, watching the sunset below the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island during the summer, the leaves changing colors in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx during the fall, or watching the snowfall in the middle of Central Park in Manhattan during the winter.
If the life of Carrie Bradshaw or Blair Waldorf can show you anything, it would be that New York City is the best place in the world. There is just something about it. It is hard to explain. It just must be in the air. I know I have felt it, and every time I go I fall more and more in love with it! I wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world! So Welcome to New York City I hope you fall in love just like I have!
