Earlier in the month, November 4th to be exact, HoneyBBuzz, also known as Bria Davenport, hosted her first session of her Style N Study Tour at North Carolina A&T. The tour is consisting of three stops so far, which not only includes North Carolina A&T, but also North Carolina Central University and Winston Salem State University.
During her stop at North Carolina A&T Bria teamed together with us, the university’s chapter of HerCampus to help host and promote girl bossness throughout the event. The event was filled with networking between A&T’s very own female entrepreneurs and other young women looking to bond over a much needed study break.
One highlight from the evening was the free lash and hair braiding services awarded to one raffle winner. There was a bar filled with sweet and tasty treats and even a station to write inspirational and encouraging letters for HoneyBBuzz to give to the young students that she mentors in Durham, North Carolina.
The purpose of the event was to give young college women a break from their studies, network, and mingle- and that’s exactly what we all did!
Following the event I got the opportunity to speak with HoneyBBuzz herself and ask a few things I’m sure her following is eager to know about the young, black, and powerful, female entrepreneur.
1. What is HoneyBBuzz?
I help women to confidently live the fabulous fashion life on a budget, without breaking a coin.
2. What was your inspiration for your brand?
Two summers ago me and my family were displaced and when I came back to school and I had nothing and we had to start from scratch with everything. At the time I had a blog, and I was like “How am I gonna do this? I have to figure out to blog and I have no clothes.” So instead I started teaching people how to wear the same dress and wear it three different ways and have it look completely different. People have always liked my style and I’ve always done it on a budget. So I was like, well how can I help people get these deals on a budget. Then I started working with children and started thinking about confidence and I started thinking about women who didn’t have enough confidence to want to look great for themselves. So that’s what I do now, help women live confidently on a budget.
3. What advice do you have for young women looking to start their own brand?
Just do it. Once you start you’ve already gotten half of it out of the way and you’ve already beaten half the battle.
4. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your branding experience thus far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is, even if you can’t be consistent, be consistent with yourself. When I was in school, I couldn’t be consistent and was staying up half the night making a dress for a class I hated or I had to study for a test, I was still posting on instagram, still giving people fashion advice, and still building my brand but without doing all of the extra stuff.
5. How do you stay consistent?
Luckily the job I have now, I don’t go there until 2:30pm. I wake up around 7am, and get out of the house and go to my uncles and set up by 8am everyday, from about 8am-1:45pm I do business all day. I’m sending emails, I’m posting stuff, I’m getting blog posts out of the way. But from 8am-1:45pm is HoneyBBuzz time.
6. What is something you think everyone should live by?
I think everyone should live by being determined. I feel like if you’re determined then you have everything you need, you have that willpower and confidence. If you’re determined you’re doing exactly what you want to do.
7. What advice would you give the younger you?
Stick to what you know, girl. People are gonna eventually like how weird you dress and they’re gonna want to be just like you, so its fine.
