I am not a big reader. I loved to read when I was younger, but haven’t read simply for pleasure in years. Right at the end of 2021, a friend lent me It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover and I was completely captivated (read my review of the book here). Because of this, I slowly started to gain more interest in reading and soon found that it was the relaxing, healthy hobby I had been searching for.
I knew reading for pleasure was a habit I wanted to maintain, and I knew I was likely only going to be able to keep up with it if I gave myself tangible goals and some way to keep myself accountable. So I decided that I would give in headfirst and make my New Year’s Resolution to read 1 book per week (52 books this year), and that I would review each book on my Instagram story to hold myself accountable.
Here are the books I’ve read so far this year and a brief review of what I thought.
- People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry – 7.5/10
- Typical, cheesy, friends to lovers story
- Very very very slow start but worth it in the end
- A lot of back story, didn’t get super into it until like halfway through
- Love both the main characters very much
- Sorta predictable the entire time
- In Five Years by Rebecca Stone – 9/10
- Has a really good message about the unpredictability of life and the danger of expectations
- So so good, but a little bit far fetched
- Love all the main characters in this one too
- Very unpredictable
- Very good length- I read it in like two days
- It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover – 10/10
- One of my favorites
- Good balance of cheesy romance and real world issues
- 100% lives up to the tik tok hype
- Clever writing
- Good characters
- Unpredictable
- Captivating
- Read more about it here
- Beach Read by Emily Henry – 9/10
- Enemies to lovers story
- Lighthearted, easy read
- AMAZING, complicated characters
- Thankfully not as slow as People We Meet on Vacation
- One of the best endings I’ve ever read
- Verity by Colleen Hoover – 10/10
- The best one yet
- I was captivated by this book literally from the first to last page. I finished it in 1 day
- Eerie and creepy mixed with romance
- SO unpredictable
- Clever writing and great characters
- Absolutely zero slow spots
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – 9/10
- So good
- Old-timey Hollywood setting is so fun
- Didn’t get super into it until like halfway through

- So unpredictable, so many plot twists
