Fun Holiday Activities to Enjoy with Your Friends This Season!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.

Finals can be a stressful time for us all, but after finals comes winter break! After a long semester, we deserve some holiday fun, and who better to spend that time with than our friends? In this article, I’ve compiled a list of fun activities to do with your besties this holiday season!

One of my favorite things to do with my friends is go on a car ride to look at the Christmas lights. Turn on your local Christmas radio, grab your hot chocolate, and admire the lights! You could do this in a neighborhood close to you, or if your local area offers a drive-through Christmas light show, you could check that out! Looking at lights is super fun because it gives you time to talk with your friends while watching awesome Christmas displays.

Another fun activity you can do during the holidays is make gingerbread houses. You could either buy a kit from your local grocery store or make your own. One of the ways you can make your own is by buying graham crackers and gluing the pieces with frosting. Once you have your base, grab your favorite candy and glue it with frosting to your house! You could even get competitive and make it into a contest with your friends to see who has the best house. Making gingerbread houses is a super fun activity since you let your creative side shine, and afterward, you’ll have a fun memory.

I was introduced to this next activity in elementary school, and to this day, it continues to be one of my favorites. Which is ornament-making? There are so many ways you can make an ornament, but one of the ways I made mine was with paint, glitter, and a clear ornament. I would pick out my favorite paint colors and insert them into my clear ornament. Afterward, I would insert glitter, and I was done! This is just one of the many ways you can make an ornament. You can also buy a premade wooden ornament from your local craft store and paint your designs. There are also so many more ways to make some! You can google more ideas, have fun, and be creative!

Here’s an example of how you could make it!

Winter is known for being cold; this next activity is perfect for staying cozy! There are so many great Christmas classics to watch this holiday season. Some of my personal favorites are The Grinch, Home Alone, Klaus and Barbie, and The Nutcracker. Grab some cozy blankets, make some hot chocolate, and grab your friends to watch your favorite Christmas movies. Watching movies is a super easy yet fun thing to do with your friends. You can also put on your favorite holiday pajamas to get into the holiday spirit!

If you’re feeling more active this holiday season, check out your local ice rinks or see if any ice rinks are open for the winter season! Ice skating can be a very fun experience for you and your friends, regardless of how good you are at it. Maybe you will have a few laughs if one of you stumbles on the ice. Or you could be the complete opposite and have an ice skating race to see who is faster. Regardless, you’ll have fun no matter what stage you’re at; who knows, maybe you’ll find out you’re good at it. Make sure to have fun and be safe out there on the ice!

I hope this list has inspired some ideas on what to do during winter break. Have a great time this holiday season, making memories with your friends! Happy Holidays!
