Her Voice: Finally Able to Speak

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NCSU chapter.

“Finally Able to Speak”

My life was a tear that did not stop falling,
My life was a flame that did not stop burning.
My life was locking myself in the bathroom, unable to stop crying.
My life was blood that did not stop dropping.

Almost two years later,
I can finally tell you I’m not bitter.
I “thank you” for making me stronger,
I wish I had been earlier.

Never will I let anyone control me like you did.
Never will I let anyone treat me the way you did.
Never will I let myself be in so much pain,
Never will I lose myself so deeply again.

You loved me,
You hated me,
You used me,
You nearly killed me!

Through tears,
Fears,
And through the years,
I was forced to stand up for myself,
And not tolerate disrespect.

I’m proud to tell you,
Without you my life is perfect.
I found love,
But most importantly,
I found myself.
