On Friday, March 17th, Sabrina Carpenter released her deluxe version of her fifth studio album titled “emails i can’t send fwd.” Fans were highly anticipating this release because she had promised to play new music on her “emails i cant send tour,” which began on March 16. I have been listening to the album nonstop since its release and these are my favorites ranked!
4. things i wish you said
“things i wish you said” is a slow ballad that closes the album. On the original version of the album, she ends with the song “decode” which illustrates the collapse of her relationship and avoids overanalyzing the factors that contributed to it. “things i wish you said” is Sabrina reminiscing on her relationship and what she could’ve done or said differently. My favorite line is “Sorry that I pulled the “it’s not you, it’s me, One day I’ll make sure you get a real apology.” This song is the perfect way to close this album as she recognizes her faults in this tumultuous heartbreak.
3. Lonesome
“Lonesome” is a moody track that questions the integrity of Sabrina’s ex-partner and ponders possible infidelity in the relationship. The song starts with a western feel and grows into a melodic and jazzy sound. This temperamental sound that Sabrina encapsulates in this track strays different from her typical pop tone, which makes this track a standout. One of the best lyrics on this track is the first line, “If I fall in love with all my problems, will they leave me too?” The melancholic and quick-witted tune overall adds to the overarching theme of “emails i cant send.”
2. opposite
The song “opposite” explores Sabrina’s connection with herself considering her partner’s ex-girlfriend is the opposite of Sabrina. An exceptional line from this song is, “I know now even if I tried to change, that somehow, you’d still end up with her anyway.” This showcases Sabrina’s uncertainties in this relationship and how she feels almost inferior. It also contributes to the underlying topic and how insecurity was a contributing cause to their downfall. The heavy focus on her vocals and emotion in this song is what makes it simple yet powerful. It is overall one of my favorites on the deluxe version!
1. Feather
“Feather” is a classic upbeat pop song that melodically stands out from the rest of the deluxe tracks. This song is my favorite out of the deluxe tracks because of the fast-paced tempo and sharp lyrics. It overall adds to the thematic vision Sabrina was going for on this album; moving on from an ex-partner and regaining confidence. My personal favorite lyric from the song is “I feel so much lighter like a feather with you off my mind, Floatin’ through the memories like whatever you’re a waste of time.” This track has definitely become one of my favorites on the entire album, and I am so excited to see her perform it live in Raleigh!
