Valentine’s Day is easily one of the most controversial holidays known to date. For those with partners, it can be super lovey-dovey and cute. But, for us singles, it can also be insanely depressing watching all those couples getting gifts and going on dates. So, be your own Valentine!

I made a self-date jar and put some slips of paper with date ideas on them, picking a random one each week. There are, however, so many ways to do this! You could do sticks with different colors to show the different types of dates over the weeks of February or just take yourself out for a nice meal on Valentine’s Day!

Here are my favorite ideas:

1. Read in the park

The main benefits of reading in the park are getting to finish your current book obsession and connecting with nature at the same time! It is simple and cost-efficient but it is my favorite out of the options for these reasons.

2. Picnic

Even when it is freezing outside, a picnic by yourself can be great! When it is cold, I like to do them on the floor of my apartment and just make a bunch of snacks to have on top of a blanket. This is also a great way to make doing homework more relaxing.

3. Go to a Museum

This can also be a cheap option to enjoy a walk and quiet time! Museums are typically free to the public and offer great opportunities for little photoshoots. Plus, who doesn’t like to appreciate art or science?

She is a sophomore at NC State University majoring in Zoology with minors in Nutrition and Wildlife Science. After graduation, she hopes to take part in international wildlife conservation to have both of her passions fulfilled: saving animals and travel. Savannah was born and raised in Lincolnton, NC with her younger brother, her cat Lucky, and her dog Foxy. She enjoys reading, listening to music, volunteering, writing, and traveling in her free time. While in Lincolnton, she helped dogs and cats get adopted through Helping Animals to Survive (HATS) which made the shelter no kill and made it possible for animals to get adopted for only $20 at the local Petsmart.
