The late-2000s and early-2010s were a wild and wonderful time for fashion and teen TV shows. From Pretty Little Liars to 90210 to Gossip Girl to One Tree Hill, wild fashion choices for the female characters were the staple of these television shows. With the Y2K trend dying down, I can only imagine that the 2010s is the next era to make a comeback and what better way to plan then taking inspiration from some of the most iconic teen television shows of the time.
I am taking a look at these iconic shows and characters and showing how you can dress like these women, especially if you want to get ahead of the trends.
To start we have my personal favorite show Pretty Little Liars. This is not only my favorite show, but my favorite fashion to look at due to the diverse nature in styles of the characters. There is a little something for everyone, which I love.
Spencer Hastings
If you like business-chic, vintage, and preppy style, then Spencer Hastings is the perfect person to take inspo from. Her style is mostly full of collared shirts, vests, skirts, ties, hats and boots.
Aria Montgomery
Funky fashion and mismatching prints are some keywords I would use to describe Aria Montgomery’s style. She is known for her crazy jewelry, tights, unique pieces, and overall kitschy mismatching perfection.
Hanna Marin
It’s hard to say that there is just one fashionista in the group, but I would definitely say that Hanna Marin is the most convincing character to give the title to. Her style consists of mini skirts, blouses, chunky jewelry, dresses, heels, and purses.
Emily Fields
Want a more toned down feel? Then Emily Fields and her sporty style are perfect for you. While she does step out occasionally, Emily is known for her athleisure and street style that include tank tops, hoodies, leggings, denim, flannel, belts, and long sleeve tees.
Alison DiLaurentis
The queen bee of the group, Alison DiLaurentis, has a very similar style to Hanna Marin, but there are a few differences. Her style consists of jeans, boots, ruffled tops, jackets, and blouses.
Next, I have Gossip Girl, which is arguably the chicest and most expensive style show, but don’t let this discourage you! Looks from this show can easily be recreated using things you already have in your closet.
Serena Van Der Woodsen
The it-girl of the Upper East Side is undoubtedly Serena Van Der Woodsen and her style exudes a chic mess who looks good without even trying. Her style consists of button downs, trousers, vests, flowy blouses, dresses, neutral tones, ties, jackets, sequins, knee high boots, and heels.
Blair Waldorf
The most fashionable girl in the Upper East Side is Serena’s best friend, Blair Waldorf. Her closet is meticulously curated to ensure that she is everyone’s fashion icon and she exudes preppy and proper. Her style can be characterized through tights, headbands, skirts, dresses, matching sets, plaid, tweed, bows, kitten heels and purses.
Jenny Humphrey
Want to break tradition? Then Jenny Humphrey is the perfect inspo for you. She started off as a Blair wannabe before taking a stark transition to a more emo and edgy style. To dress morel like Jenny you need lots of black, ripped tights, tank tops, longsleeve dresses, leather, ties, short dresses, and chokers.
Vanessa Abrams
The outsider in the Upper East Side is Vanessa Abrams, but her style is still very important to the show. Although she wasn’t from the Upper East Side, her style is indicative that although outwardly she doesn’t want to fit in, but on the inside she does. Her style consists of patterns, dresses, unique pieces, vintage, bright colors, vests, long jewelry, and shawls.
Finally, we have The Vampire Diaries, whose dark-centered tones match in the clothing choices of the characters.
Elena Gilbert
Elena Gilbert is the mysterious girl in Mystic Falls who tends to keep to herself. Her style is extremely consist with little to no change. Her style includes leather jackets, dark pants, lacey tank tops, white t-shirts, long sleeve baby tees, and sneakers.
Caroline Forbes
The fashion icon of Mystic Falls is without a doubt Caroline Forbes. Take preppy southern belle and that’s Caroline and her style includes dresses, cardigans, florals, jean jackets, belts, and lacey dresses.
Bonnie Bennett
The iconic witch Bonnie Bennett had an everchanging style throughout the show that is a clear combination of both Elena and Caroline’s respective styles. Her own personal style can be characterized by flannels, leather, blouses, long jewelry, jackets, flowy skirts, tank tops, and boots.
There is something for everyone when it comes to 2010s teen show fashion, and these characters don’t even cover it all. If none of these characters style identified with you, take at look at characters from One Tree Hill, The OC, 90210, Teen Wolf, Gilmore Girls, or Glee. Taking inspiration from these characters are a surefire way to curate your own unique personal style and potewntiallyt be ahead of the resurgence of 2010s fashion.
