University of New Haven has an abundance of service based organizations and programs on it’s campus, but this semester Love Your Melon has opened up and is doing a lot of good. Founded in 2012 at the University of St. Paul, Love Your Melon is a beanie and hat based company with the goal of putting a hat on the head of all children fighting cancer in the U.S.
Tricia Lasasso, a graduate student here at UNH, was the first to bring the organization to campus and since then, the group has been making strides.
“Our crew receivesĀ ācreditsā every timeĀ someone makes a purchase and chooses to support us,” says Brianna Sirota, ’17, a LYM brand ambassador. “We are more than half way to our first goal, 100 credits, and weāve only just started!”
Every hat sold is matched and donated to a child in need. After they reach 100 credits, the group will be able to make their first hospital visit and meet the children that are benefiting from the programs.
“IĀ got involvedĀ with LYM becauseĀ not only does it have an inspiring mission, but it unites college students from all over the country to make a difference and impact in our communities,” says Sirota.
