Must-Have Items for Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Haven chapter.

As we still sweat it out in this mid-September heat wave, almost every collegiette I know is anxiously awaiting the arrival of fall— including myself. The changing leaves and chilly autumn weather cannot arrive soon enough. I, myself, have been dreaming about the days where I can put on a sweater in the morning and not be sweating bullets by the afternoon.

I know we all have our few go-to items when it comes to each season, and so here is my list of items that every collegiette should have when autumn does finally roll around.

1. Chunky sweatersIf I could only pick one thing for fall, it would be chunky sweaters. Ladies, you can never have enough of them. The bigger and warmer, the better, in my opinion. Sometimes these can be pretty expensive, but there are some cheaper options. For example, this one from Aeropostale (yes, I know I’m not 14 anymore, but I saw it through the window and NEEDED it). It’s huge and warm and I can’t wait to wear it everywhere when it gets colder. The best part? It’s on sale for $39.00 down from $64.50 (although I got it in-store for $30!)

2. TeaAnyone who knows me can vouch that I am a caffeine addict and drink multiple cups of coffee a day— but for fall especially, I really like keeping tea around. There’s nothing like having a warm cup of tea in your hands and watching the leaves fall from the trees and swirl around in the wind. For fall, one of my favorites is chai.

3. Red LipstickI know everyone has their own feelings about red lips, but I think they are perfect for fall. If you aren’t a fan of bright red, try a dark wine color or something with more of a berry tone. There is a shade of red for everyone!  There’s nothing I like better than a red lip on a nice fall day. I personally like a nice solid brick red. Let’s take a cue from the master of the red lip herself, Miss Taylor Swift.

4. A Massive, Fuzzy BlanketAre you sensing a trend? Anyway, everyone needs one of these. I don’t care if you live in California, you need to buy a fuzzy blanket and turn your air conditioning up all the way so that you can use it. Fall is the perfect time to snuggle up in a fuzzy little cuddly blanket. And you have so many inexpensive options!! My two favorites are the giant fuzzy teal throw from Target, and the fuzzy Vera Bradley throw. You need to go out and buy one right now.

Also nice for the fall: cuddly puppies!

Those are just a few things that make me think of fall, and I will be sure to have all of them with me this season (except the puppy… dorms do not allow puppies)! Enjoy the chilly weather, collegiettes!
