As of Wednesday, September 7, UNH reached the top 25 in the The Music 101: Shawn Mendes Contest! The contest ends on Friday, September 9, and the winners will be announced then. Even if we do not win, we have come a long way.
The contest started out in August, when Shawn posted about it on his twitter. Mendes fan and UNH student, Lexi Prugh, said as soon as she found out, she entered UNH into the competition. For the past 3 weeks, UNH Facebook groups have been blowing up daily with the link to vote for our school in the Mendes contest.
Chegg, the Student Hub, brought this contest about in partnership with a national youth tobacco prevention campaign called Truth. They wanted to give one U.S. college or high school campus the opportunity to win a visit from the pop sensation and multi-platinum singer-songwriter. To embrace the arts and how important it is in education, Chegg is awarding the winning school a $10,000 grant for their music department, a Q&A with Shawn, and an exclusive performance.
It was initially a big deal when UNH made the Top 100 list. UNH was one of two Connecticut schools in the contest. In the next week, UNH moved up to the Top 50 list. Now, as the only Connecticut school in the running, we have finally reached the Top 25! If we keep racking up the votes, hopefully UNH will win.
Check Chegg on the 9th to see the result!
